COLD and flu remedies are being slapped with security tags amid a wave of winter bugs — and shoplifting.

Thieves are nicking £2.15 boxes of Nurofen and £4.50 Lemsip packets, prompting store bosses to take action.

Tesco has put “Security Protected” warnings on remedies, which range up to £7 for Gaviscon.

Customer Dylan Johnson, 48, at Tesco Express, Blackpool, said: “The place is like Fort Knox.

“There are cameras on each aisle and a security guard.

Last month, a Tesco in Ilford, East London, locked up £1.75 Cadbury choc bars.

And a Sainsbury’s in Barnet, North London, security protected £3 Lindt treats.

Tesco has been approached for comment.
