MARRIED At First Sight UK viewers were fuming during a row between Maeve Mathieson and Joe Wood.
The married couple faced-off in a long awaited showdown following his week long disappearance from the E4 reality series.
In some early scenes of Sunday’s episode, Maeve questioned whether she’d have to attend the dinner party alone after she was forced to attend a Couple’s Retreat solo, following an argument with Joe who had stormed off.
As Maeve prepared for dinner, Joe arrived to their hut all smiles and could not understand why she was upset.
Maeve confronted him on comments he’d made to fellow groom Ashley Dommett, saying he was not sure if he loved her or if they were compatible.
Maeve shouted: “You got asked if you have any feelings towards me, you didn’t say anything.”
He fumed: “What the f**k am I meant to do?,” as she screamed: “I’ve been crying for a week man.”
Joe then declared that he did not think their relationship would work out and they decided to break up.
He stormed out in a rage, but people watching at home sided with Maeve, labelling Joe a ‘gaslighter’.
Gaslighting refers to a psychological tactic that sees one person get the other to question the validity of their thoughts and opinions.
“Classic gaslighting technique from Joe, she’s going to shout scream and look like the crazy one,” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter.
Another added: “Maeve going in on Joe when’s he been at a funeral is bonkers. I agree Joe has been a f**kwit too but make it make sense..”
And a third commented: “I feel like Joe, and some people watching are using his grief to get past the manipulation! Maeve didn’t communicate right, but she’s also been left for a week, after a fight, feeling like this with nothing from Joe, after telling him he loves her!”
Maeve attended the last dinner party alone after he was absent for a family funeral and broke down in tears as she told her co-stars how she was feeling.
Maeve confessed: “I’m gonna cry, I can feel the tears coming. I just feel mugged off.”
She then called her show pals including Grace Law to accompany her to a separate room where she emotionally confessed: “I feel like a f****** mug I just hate this.
“I get obv going to a funeral, I get that, that’s not what I am upset about.
“I get that you need space to do what you’ve got to do but you’ve not really kept me in the loop.”
