THE magic of the FA Cup is alive and well as League One Mansfield Town welcome Premier League leaders Arsenal to a rocking One Call Stadium this Saturday lunchtime.
Separated by 58 places in the football pyramid, this fifth-round tie is a classic “David vs Goliath” encounter. The Stags are playing in the last 16 for the first time since the 1974-75 season, while Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are chasing a potential quadruple.

The betting angle: Can the Stags stun the Gunners?
For Mansfield Town, this is the biggest game in a generation. Nigel Clough’s men have already proven they are capable of an upset, having stunned Premier League Burnley with a 2-1 comeback win at Turf Moor in the previous round (adding to victories over Sheffield United and Harrogate). The atmosphere at Field Mill will be electric, and they will rely on the attacking threat of top cup scorer Lewis Reed to try and breach the Arsenal defence.
Arsenal, however, arrive in imperious form. Sitting seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 1-0 midweek win over Brighton, Arteta’s side are full of confidence. They cruised past Wigan Athletic 4-0 in the fourth round and will look to dominate possession here.
That being said, Arteta has some serious injury headaches. William Saliba is a major doubt after twisting his ankle, while captain Martin Ødegaard (knee), Ben White, and Mikel Merino are all expected to miss out. This will force rotation, with the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and teenage sensation Max Dowman potentially stepping into the starting XI.
Even with a heavily rotated side, Arsenal’s depth should be too much for a League One defence to handle over 90 minutes. Mansfield will fight bravely, but the Gunners’ quality in the final third will eventually shine through.
- Our tip: Arsenal to Win & Over 3.5 Goals.
- The Longshot: Arsenal to win 4-0
