Christian Brueckner’s release has confirmed my worst fears – Maddie suspect is more dangerous NOW than ever… here’s why

FOR months I have been writing of the dangers of Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner being released.

Now my worst fears have been confirmed – he’s a free man and he’s already bragging he knows more about the McCann case than he has ever let on to police. And there’s one thing about this footage – obtained exclusively by The Sun – that proves to me he’s more dangerous than ever.

Brueckner is already trying to give cops the slip.

Video – clear as day – shows the smirking rapist showing off his ankle tag then creepily laughing and declaring, “Look, I am under control”.

That sounds worryingly like an admission he didn’t use to be under control – and certainly that it’s not what he wants now.

We know he told a phone shop worker he was supposed to be in Kiel – under the watchful eye of his lawyers.

After months of frantic negotiation, they had managed to secure him police security – a ludicrous outcome for the sadistic, whinging paedophile and a cost to the German taxpayer surely in the £100,000s.

But that wasn’t good enough for Brueckner. After one night in a hotel he left the town. His next stop was the mobile phone shop where he declared he had to move towns “because there were too many police”.

To see him laugh, swaggering around the store – swilling his cup of coffee with an engrained sense of self-importance – made me sick to my stomach. How can he be roaming the streets like this?

We know for a fact he has shown no remorse behind bars – and refused to take any steps towards rehabilitation, whinging there is “nothing wrong” with him.

The shocking video clearly shows a man very pleased with himself. To me it looks like he has been handed everything he wanted.

He’s been allowed to commit his crimes then live as a free man for a decade before he was caught – now he’s swanning around like he’s beaten the system.

Worse than that, his evil grins in our footage show how much he revels in now being a celebrity.

I’ve previously written about the bonkers German justice process that essentially lets prisoners do what they want on release.

Brueckner has victims for goodness sake – never mind the alleged and suspected victims that include the McCanns.

What must Madeleine’s family make of seeing this man out shopping like any other person and telling anyone who will listen he’s not guilty of any crime ever.

Perhaps most sinister is the way, during our staggering 90 minutes of footage, Brueckner clearly shows off and brags how he has “special information” that means people are after him.

Where most people might be terrified for their liberty, Brueckner appears unafraid despite claiming his life could be in danger.

He appears to gloat he knows how to solve the McCann case, telling a worker he had evidence to “solve the biggest scandal of the century”.

‘Serious threat’

Really, what else could he mean apart from Madeleine’s disappearance? A case he has always refused to answer police questions on…

According to a witness, Brueckner clearly indicated he has knowledge of some sort of network – no one knows if he means paedophiles. It would seem likely given his track record.

And he hints his proof is linked to USBs.

Our exclusive documentary earlier this year revealed that a hoard of information cops uncovered on Brueckner came from a bag of six USB sticks found at his abandoned box factory lair, in Germany.

Is this what he means? Surely he would not be that brazen to start revealing such information within 24 hours of leaving prison.

The Sun last week revealed investigators fear Maddie was stolen to order – potentially by a Belgium paedophile ring linked to the terrifying wake of monster Marc Dutroux.

There are myriad similarities between the fiends.

I know from my investigations Brueckner’s psychology is simple – to challenge and smash the boundaries of every social norm he encounters.

You might think he would listen to his lawyers? But no, he’s already decided he knows better and has picked somewhere else to live.

They have told him to keep a low profile but he has already been out partying at a nightclub and begging for free pizzas from Domino’s.

The CCTV of him happily interacting with staff and other shoppers doesn’t indicate a man who feels worried. If anything he looks disturbingly emboldened.

Whatever we are witnessing now – we can be certain it is only the beginning

This growing confidence indicates one thing to me – he’s more dangerous than ever.

His pattern of offending shows he starts small – then increases his risk – and increases the thrill he seeks.

I know this from the haul of evidence I have seen after investigating him for 18 months.

Stolen children’s toys and swimming costumes soon gave birth to abhorrent child-snatch stories and online discussions about stealing a child to “use for days”.

In the end he couldn’t help himself and he brutally raped and tortured an American woman, 72, in Praia da Luz, the village Maddie disappeared from. He was later convicted of the sickening abuse of a girl of five as she played in a park.

So whatever we are witnessing now – we can be certain it is only the beginning.

Right now, it’s McDonald’s then Domino’s – then daytime shopping for phones.

Soon it will be dating apps and petty crimes – then low level abuse. What comes next doesn’t bear thinking about.

The town where he now lives is clear – this man poses a serious threat.

Ask any parent – they will tell you the same thing: “We don’t let our children play out on the street anymore.”
