THIAGO SILVA has returned to Porto in a surprise move at the age of 41.

This comes after four years at Chelsea where the centre-back enjoyed immense success after winning the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

The Brazil international decided to leave Fluminense and thus signed with Porto as a free agent.

That sees Silva going back to the Dragao almost 20 years after he left the Portuguese giants.

The defender spent a year with the two-time Champions League winners, where he mainly competed for the B team.

The club announced the Brazilian signed a contract until the end of the season with an option to extend until 2027.

Porto released the following statement: “Thiago Silva is a name that dispenses with any kind of presentation.

“At 41 years old, he has a career that speaks for itself, representing, among others, clubs such as AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

“In all of them he played more than 100 games. In all of them he was a figure of the bow. In all of them he won titles.”

Silva’s career took off in 2009, four years after he left Porto, when he joined AC Milan.

The central defender amassed a total of six goals and two assists in 119 appearances until his departure for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

Silva spent eight glittering years with PSG where he registered 17 goals and seven assists in 315 appearances across all competitions.

The Brazilian then amassed nine goals and five assists in 155 appearances with Chelsea.

Silva said: “I’m here to announce my return to the Dragons and say how happy and flattered I am for this opportunity. I’m super motivated, I hope I can help in the best possible way.

“I would like to thank our President Andre Villas-Boas for the opportunity and our Mister Francesco Farioli, too, and say how anxious I am to be once again wearing these colours.

“I count on your support and I hope to see you at Dragao.”
