A MEMBER of a chart-topping British band has just announced they have quit after spending over a decade making music.
Pale Waves, who have had several Number One hits on the Indie charts, made an emotional statement to Instagram announcing guitarist Hugo Silvani’s departure, sharing how they will “miss him dearly”.
Penned in the caption of a black and white photo of the band, the remaining members said: “It’s with sadness that we are announcing Hugo’s departure from Pale Waves.
“The last decade together has been filled with memories that will last a lifetime.
“We are forever grateful for Hugo’s role in this band and the music we have created together.
“Although we will miss him dearly, we wish him the best on his new adventures.
“With love, Ciara, Heather & Charlie xxx.”
Fans of the group were saddened by the news but wished Hugo all the best in the post’s comments section.
One user said: “Wishing Hugo all the best in the future!!!! lots of love you legend.”
Another added: “Aw we love you Hugo. Wishing you the best on your new adventures.”
A third emotionally expressed: “I’m so heartbroken to see him go.
To be honest, I kind of felt like this day might come, but it doesn’t make it any easier.
“Hugo was such a huge part of Pale Waves – in fact, he’s the reason I first discovered the band.
“It’s hard to say goodbye, but I’m also excited to see what Hugo does next.
“I’ll always be rooting for him! And of course, I’ll be a fan of Pale Waves forever.”
Pale Waves first formed 2014 as a alternative rock and indie pop group when the band’s lead singer and guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie met drummer Ciara Doran while she was studying at the BIMM institute.
The duo later found guitarist Hugo and bassist Charli Wood, solidifying their line-up.
The four talents originally made music under the name “Creek” but quickly changed it during their founding year.
Their first major breakthrough was in 2017 when they signed with Dirty Hit and released their debut singles There’s a Honey and Television Romance.
Though their hits continued to keep charting in the years to follow, landing them top spots on the UK Indie chart and top ten positions on the UK albums and singles chart.
From there Pale Waves went on to win numerous awards including NME Under the Radar, and Q’s Best Breakthrough Act.
They were also listed in The NME 100 in 2018.
Pale Waves’ career

- Pales Waves were first signed in 2017 and saw success with their debut singles There’s a Honey and Television Romance
- In the following couple of years after a successful debut Pale Waves received numerous nominations for awards including NME’s Best Video, MTV’s Brand New, Clash’s 10 for ’18, Alternative Press’ 18 Artists to Watch in 2018, and dscvr’s Artists to Watch 2018.
- They won awards for Q’s Best Breakthrough Act, and NME’s Under the Radar in 2019 and 2018 respectively. Pale Waves also placed fifth in BBC’s Sound of 2018.
- After their debut the group extensively toured and released their second album, Who Am I? in 2021. It peaked at number three on the UK Albums Charts and hit number one on the Official Independent Albums Chart.
