‘Centre backs had more shots’ says Daniel Sturridge as he pinpoints THREE areas Man Utd ace Rasmus Hojlund must improve

DANIEL STURRIDGE has told Rasmus Hojlund to be more “selfish” if he wants to improve his poor goal return.

The £72million Manchester United forward has netted just twice in his last 30 appearances for the Red Devils.

Hojlund salvaged a point for United with a last-gasp goal against ten-man Bournemouth on Sunday.

It came after Sturridge gave the Dane three tips ahead of the contest on the South Coast.

Former Liverpool striker Sturridge netted 67 times in 160 games on Merseyside.

And he believes most of Hojlund’s issues come from not shooting when he can.

The Dane has managed just 25 shots across 29 Premier League games this season – with his goal against the Cherries his only effort of the match.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes has struck 61 more shots than Hojlund this season, while even full-back Diogo Dalot has mustered 23.

Appearing as a pundit on Sky Sports, an exasperated Sturridge said: “[United’s] centre backs have had more shots.”

Sturridge also claims Hojlund was struggling with off-the-ball movement.

And he should also work on improving his communication with teammates.

He added: “I have had periods where I have had one shot coming off the pitch.

“[That] is down to me, my run selection.

“It is also communicating with teammates – saying this is what I want from you.

“The one thing he has to improve on for me is being a little bit more selfish, you have to pick your shots.”

Hojlund struck late against the Cherries to earn United a point on the road.

It was his first goal for United since March 16 and just his second since December 7.

But despite speculation of new striking options arriving in the summer, Sturridge doesn’t believe United should write Hojlund off completely.

He added: “There’s something in there, he is not a bad player.

“He has talent and maybe the setup he is in now isn’t allowing him to flourish.”
