Carlos Tevez scored four goals in 15 minutes — and was widely booed after all of them — to turn Sunday’s Soccer Aid game at Old Trafford on its head.

The 41-year-old is no stranger to the Theatre of Dreams, having spent two seasons at Manchester United between 2007 and 2009.

Tevez enjoyed great success with United, winning six trophies — including two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League.

But he forfeited his status as a United fan favourite by transferring to rivals Manchester City in 2009.

There were clearly many United supporters in the crowd on Sunday because Tevez was roundly booed when his name was read out over the speaker system prior to his introduction as a second-half substitute.

England were leading 2-0 at this point, but Tevez’s World XI would score five of seven second-half gols to win 5-4, with each of the ex-Argentina forward’s four strikes jeered.

Then, after the World XI had taken the lead for the first time with a late goal from TV chef Big Zuu, Tevez cynically hauled down Aaron Lennon with the former England winger through on goal.

Ordinarily a player would have been sent off for such a foul, but the referee opted for leniency – and even allowed Lennon to show Tevez the yellow card himself.

Earlier, Tevez appeared to revel in the role of pantomime villain as he responded to the boos by cupping his ear and showing the crowd the back of his shirt.

Former professionals Joe Hart and Edwin van der Sar had kept goal in the first 45 minutes, but they were replaced by celebrity stoppers Nicky Byrne and Paddy McGuinness at the interval.

Comedian and radio presenter McGuinness was no match for the clinical finishing of Tevez, who scored 84 goals in 201 games during his Premier League career.

Tevez’s four goals on Sunday — including a placed free-kick from 20 yards — drew the World XI level at 4-4 before Big Zuu’s late winner.

Wayne Rooney had earlier opened the scoring in front of the Stretford End, before ex-Lionesses star Toni Duggan doubled the home side’s lead.

Jermain Defoe bagged a brace for England after the break but the second half belonged to Tevez.
