Calls to Lay Off Biden By the Democrats Fall on Deaf Ears, With Good Reason – HotAir

Liberals have been calling for everybody to quit talking about the Biden health coverup now that he has announced his Stage IV cancer diagnosis.

They would have a point if the only reason to focus on his obvious mental decline was to make fun of Biden. Making fun of a person when they are down is, indeed, pretty low, no matter how much you dislike them. Biden will soon be leaving this mortal coil, and it serves no purpose to pile on to his woes.

But the reason why people are focusing so much attention on the Biden cover-up isn’t Joe Biden’s flaws as a human being or a president; it’s that there was a systematic cover-up conducted by all the people around him, leaving the country with a non-functioning president. A cabal of insiders appointed themselves the proxy-president, and that is an attack on our system of government.

In fact, the announcement that Biden is suffering from an almost certainly fatal disease so  soon after leaving–and so soon after he asked the country to entrust him with the presidency for another four years–compounds the seriousness of the coverup. That very same cabal didn’t just hide Biden’s incapacity to lead, but also the fact that he would be battling a terminal illness while supposedly serving as the leader of the free world.

But there is another reason why many Republicans are dismissing the crocodile tears of the left: they have behaved atrociously whenever a Republican faces illness or threats to their lives. They have a habit of celebrating when bad things happen to Republicans.

You can always expect fringe types to do fringe-type things, so while I cringe whenever I see people from any place on the political spectrum do outrageous things, I tend to discount it if the perpetrators have only a few or a few hundred followers. Awful people are a dime a dozen, and if they aren’t influential, it’s not a big deal. Their antics will gain clicks, but make no difference.

But it’s pretty common to find influential hard-core lefties leading the charge rather than refraining from engaging in rotten behavior, and that does matter. When you have influencers who are often seen as proxies for a political party–ambassadors to the more extreme elements of a political party, some of whom are directly involved in the messaging strategy of the left–it’s really not illegitimate to link their behavior to the top.

After Rush Limbaugh’s death, “Rest in Piss” was trending on Twitter. After the assassination attempt on President Trump and the murder of one of his supporters, it was common to find lefties wishing that Thomas Crooks was a better shot.

When such sentiments are common among prominent members of your party, it takes a lot of chutzpah to demand that Republicans and others quit talking about the biggest scandal in decades–one in which the Democratic Party hierarchy was a key player.

It’s not just a double standard–when has pushing a double standard been a barrier to making a political argument?–but using Joe Biden’s infirmities as an excuse to perpetrate yet another cover-up.

It’s the old joke about prosecuting a son who kills his parents, and then throws himself on the mercy of the court: “Please don’t punish me–I am an orphan!”

I think that it serves no purpose and is in bad taste to pile on Biden. Hounding a man facing death is tasteless. But exposing and punishing to the extent possible the people who defrauded and endangered the country remains a necessity, and demanding of conservatives the courtesies that liberals denied to their political opponents is ballsy.
