Bulldozer driver flattens car and ‘deliberately’ smashes into village pub in ‘targeted’ attack

A BULLDOZER driver smashed into a village pub and flattened a car in a “targeted” attack.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH plus driving offences, including being under the influence of drink or drugs.

The driver was subsequently admitted to hospital.

South Wales Police say the bulldozer was deliberately ploughed into the walls of the New Inn pub in Hirwaun.

An empty car parked outside was also damaged when it was smashed into on Thursday evening.

A police spokesman said: “We have reason to believe that this incident may have been targeted rather than random, and we are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding it.”

The spokesperson added: “The investigation is ongoing.

“The incident was swiftly brought under control and we would like to extend our thanks to the public for their support throughout the incident.”

No one was injured apart from the suspect, from nearby Rhigos.

The pub is now closed until further notice.
