Building Occupation Leads to Arrests at University of Washington – HotAir

A group of pro-Palestinian extremists occupied an engineering building on the campus of the University of Washington last night. They targeted the building because it was partly funded by a donation from Boeing.

The occupation of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building began shortly before the building closed at 5 p.m. Monday, according to Victor Balta, a spokesperson for the university. The engineering building was partially funded by a $10 million donation from Boeing, according to the university’s website.

“Individuals who mostly covered their faces blocked access to two streets outside the building, blocked entrances and exits to the building and ignited fires in two dumpsters on a street outside,” Balta said in a statement to CNN.

The group that organized the takeover is called Students United for Palestinian Equality and Return or simply SUPER UW. They were demanding that the school cut ties with Boeing. They look like your standard Antifa goons, dressed in black with faces covered. Some of them were carrying shields made out of trash cans. After taking over the building they quickly set up a barricade outside made of furniture.

These two videos show the scene soon after the takeover.

Some sort of security arrived and quickly got bullied into leaving.

Seattle PD eventually showed up and at first they also were backed down by the mob.

They posted a call to action for people to show up outside the building to support the occupiers inside.

UW STUDENTS ARE OCCUPYING THE BOEING FUNDED ENGINEERING BUILDING ON UW CAMPUS!! Show up right now to the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (4000 E Stevens Way) to support these brave students.

The University of Washington is a direct partner in the genocide of the Palestinian people through its allegiance to its partnership with Boeing. RALLY NOW outside the IEB to take action with these students, alongside the people of Palestine and their brave resistance. Wear a mask, and cover idntifiable features.

Meanwhile, Antifa dragged furniture into the street and set it on fire.

This is peak goon squad.

For more than half an hour the police just stood by watching.

But sometime around 11pm the police finally made an announcement to clear the area.

Then they cleared the debris and entered the building.

While this was happening, some remnant of the goon squad was shouting (not shooting!) “Death to the police!”

Police made something like 30 arrests.

All that was left for SUPER UW to do was whine about the arrests.

The question is what happens next. So far the school is talking tough.

About 30 individuals who occupied the building were arrested and charges of trespassing, property destruction and disorderly conduct, and conspiracy to commit all three, will be referred to the King County Prosecutor’s Office. Any students identified as being involved will also be referred to the Student Conduct Office.

The UW is committed to maintaining a secure learning and research environment, and strongly condemns this illegal building occupation and the antisemitic statement that was issued by a suspended student group Monday. The University will not be intimidated by this sort of offensive and destructive behavior and will continue to oppose antisemitism in all its forms.

Will the charges hold up? Will the school actually refer everyone involved for discipline/expulsion? The track record on universities standing up to these activists isn’t great, but maybe with the threat of losing federal funding out there UW will take this a bit more seriously.
