Brits enjoy a Sunday Roast EVERY weekend – and some families even ban phones at the table

THE SUNDAY roast is alive and well with over half (53 percent) of British households insisting they have one every weekend.

And the study reveals the things we love most about Sunday lunch – with roast potatoes coming top (65 percent).

Yorkies came a close second at 48 percent and lashings of gravy third at 47 percent.

Nearly a quarter (22 percent) say it is one of the only times they actually talk to each other around the table.

Most talk about what’s been going on during the week (55 percent) others talk about TV shows (34 percent).

Food was a hotly debated topic around the dinner table (28 percent), and current affairs (24 percent).

Brits loved cracking open a nice bottle of wine (18 percent), sitting down with all the family (28 percent) and setting the table nicely (16 percent).

Having friends over (16 percent) also made the list of things which make Sunday special.

While apple crumble (19 percent), crackling (16 percent), mint sauce (14 percent) and horseradish (9 percent) are other things we love about a roast.

In fact, as many as 41 percent of families have banned mobile phones from the Sunday lunch table, so they can enjoy a proper catch up, according to the poll by Oak Furnitureland.

However, outside of Sundays, three-quarters (75 percent) admit to sitting in front of the telly most nights.

The same admitted eating their dinner from a tray – an average of four nights a week.

A whopping 37 percent of parents said their teens often eat dinner in their bedrooms.

Over half (53 percent) say that talking over the dinner table is really important to them.

So much so that 44 percent would love to connect more with their family at mealtimes.

“People still value having the time to sit together around the dinner table and enjoy real connection with friends and family.”

When it comes to the ultimate Sunday roast, chicken (36 percent) is the go-to meat of choice.

This was followed closely by beef (34 percent) and lamb (15 percent).

On the bottom of the list was pork with a measly eight percent.
