British tourist on holiday in Cyprus branded ‘disrespectful’ as she moans about the ‘awful’ local cuisine served at her all-inclusive hotel

A self-professed ‘picky eater’ has divided opinion after giving a less than favourable review of the buffet at her all-inclusive hotel.

Simone Wilko, who is from the UK, was holidaying in Cyprus with her mother and boyfriend last week when she decided to share what she had for lunch.

The 19-year-old was left unimpressed by the selection of local food – especially at the ‘awful’ range of vegetables.

Simone eventually opted for two pitta breads, some meat and a plate of chips – making sure to avoid any fruit or veg, or anything with seasoning.

But after she posted her findings to TikTok, which racked up more than 800,000 views, people were left baffled – even saying she had been ‘disrespectful’, while others said her eating habits resembled that of a child.

As she filmed the stuffed zucchini with vegetables, Simone said in her video: ‘There was so much to choose from, but at the same time there wasn’t. I understand that I’m in a different country, but what on earth are these foods?

‘They look absolutely awful, I’m not going to lie. I couldn’t think of anything worse.’

Filming the traditional black eye beans with Swiss chards, she said: ‘What on earth is this.’

Moving onto the pizza counter, she was presented with a ‘pizza quattro formaggi’ – pizza with four cheeses.

Simone said: ‘I was actually getting excited thinking this was Margherita pizza, but it wasn’t, it had something under it and it was weird cheese.’

In the end, she opted for two pitta breads as it’s ‘just plain bread’, adding a scoop of chips, pork stirfry and BBQ ribs, which she ‘has at home’.

However, she confessed that if they’d had herbs on, it would have been a different story as she ‘doesn’t like the taste’ of seasoning.

With the pork, she only managed two tiny slithers of meat as some of it was covered in onions.

‘It didn’t really work and it was horrible anyway. It had this weird seasoning on, and I do not like seasoning,’ she said.

She was also tempted by the chicken, but noticed it was ‘pink’ near the bone and decided to swerve it.

Luckily, she was more enthusiastic about the desserts on offer and said they were ‘delicious looking’, helping herself to some chocolate crunch cake, although she said her coco pops dessert was ‘disgusting’.

People were left baffled at Simone’s selection from the buffet and thought she should have been more adventurous.

They said: ‘“Picky” she means she doesn’t like anything healthy or green’;

‘“What on earth are these foods” and it’s literally just vegetables’;

‘I thought people ended this phase when they turned like eight’;

‘Instead of going abroad maybe try Cornwall babes x’;

‘Fellow lowkey picky eater here but there’s a difference between you and me – I don’t go round being disrespect about food saying they “look awful” and “taste disgusting”.’

‘I’m a very picky eater but this seems disrespectful.’

However, others came to her defence, writing: ‘I’m not a picky eater but that food doesn’t look very appetizing.’

In another video, Simone revealed the contents of a full day of eating while on holiday, opting for a bowl of plain yoghurt and a croissant for breakfast.

To drink, she had a glass of apple juice and a chocolate milkshake, followed by a diet coke.

For lunch, she had a hot dog and chips, which even had a small salad on the side.

For dinner, she picked the meat out of a stew – making sure to avoid the onions and vegetables – again adding some chips, and cucumber this time. For dessert, she chose brownies with custard.

It comes after a woman has divided opinion on social media after demonstrating a savvy tactic to make the most out of the hotel breakfast buffet whilst on holiday.

Nicola Lewis, a ‘decluttering and organising expert’ from Essex, the UK, regularly shares travel tips and money-saving hacks with her 210K following on Instagram.

In a video uploaded to her page @thisgirlcanorganise in June, she shared her top ‘strategy’ for tourists holidaying at all-inclusive resorts or half-board accommodation.

Many hotel breakfast buffets offer salads, cold meats and cheeses alongside traditional staples such as pastries, cereals and hot dishes.

Though the specific selection can vary by hotel, it’s common to be offered a range of cold meats, such as ham, turkey, tuna or salami, as well as fresh vegetables like rocket, tomato, red onion and cucumber.

According to Nicola, these options can double-up as a handy takeaway option for a lunchtime meal away from the hotel.

In the clip, the content creator arrived at the buffet at an undisclosed hotel and sliced some bread from a seeded loaf, before moving on to the salad bar.

She scooped a generous portion of tinned tuna onto the bread and topped the sandwich off with rocket and sliced cucumber.

Taking her plate to an outdoor seating area, Nicola proceeded to neatly pack her lunch into Tupperware she had brought in her bag, before exiting the buffet to begin her day.

In an accompanying caption, she wrote: ‘There is nothing wrong with rustling up your lunch from the hotel brekkie buffet – it’s what I call budget chic and organised realness! It saves a small fortune – more pennies for cocktails!’

She advised hotel guests to arrive at the buffet armed with a collapsible container and a washable sandwich bag to store in their room fridges.

Nicola added: ‘You’re posh, practical, and planet friendly. Just a little old skool tip from me to you… now strut into that day fully fed and fabulous! And it’s not stingy, it’s STRATEGY!’

The cost-conscious Brit assured her followers that after checking with hotel management, she was ‘allowed’ to leave the premises with her packed lunch.

The clip, which has since amassed over 45,000 likes and almost 2000 comments, has left viewers divided – with many accusing the holidaymaker of being ‘cheap’ and ‘greedy.’

One person wrote: ‘You have paid for breakfast. Not lunch. Hotel within rights to charge you for additional breakfast.’

Another outraged holidaymaker: ‘Yup, another entitled traveller stealing.. so wrong.. you should be ashamed.’
