A MAJOR UK high street store is shutting down another branch following another slew of 68 devastating closures.

The beloved budget retailer has announced a huge closing down sale, while its doors will shutter for good in a matter of days.

Poundland will close its Hailsham site in at the end of the month.

The East Sussex store has now launched a massive sale as it prepares to cease trading.

The store, located in Quintins shopping centre, has announced that it will officially close on Wednesday, October 29.

The closing down sale is already well underway with shoppers racing to the store to bag themselves a bargain.

Poundland’s UK retail manager, Darren Madonald said: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.

“These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave locations like Hailsham with pride.

“And when our doors close, we’ll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”

Residents have been quick to share their disappointment over the recent news.

One took to Facebook writing: “Worked there for seven years, my fellow workers, many who still work there were nice and easy to get on with, so feel sorry for them.”

Another saddened shopper added: “Oh no… that’s such a shame… I will miss it.”

This comes after The Sun reported on another Poundland closure earlier this week.

The West Thurnock branch in Essex has also launched a closing down sale offering discounts of up to 40 per cent ahead of its closure on October 27.

The closing sales cover all the stock in each store from homeware to groceries and clothing to health and beauty.

The devastating closures follow a restructuring plan launched earlier this year after the chain was bought for £1 by Gordon Brothers.

Their rescue plan, approved by the High Court, involves tough decisions, including the closure of 68 stores, cutting 1,000 jobs, and shutting two warehouses, which will affect 350 workers.

However, The Sun reported at the beginning of the month that Poundland dramatically saved three of its stores on the week they were due to close.

The retailer secured new lease agreements in Livingston, Musselburgh and Porthcawl to keep the stores open.

The three stores had begun extensive clearances as they prepared to close, under the company’s restructuring and recovery plan.

But, they are now set to re-open later this month.
