British high street bank is shutting 6 branches this week alone

A HIGH Street bank is wrapping up 2025 with further closures, as six more sites are set to shut up shop in days.

This means the banking giant will have shuttered more than 100 branches by the end of this year.

NatWest’s move to cease operating from half a dozen more locations in the coming days follows a major nationwide branch review.

The bank decided to reduce its physical locations in response to the findings.

Reflecting a broad shift in banking habits, the decision has been driven by the fact that most new accounts are opened online.

Customers increasingly favour online and digital banking, with more than 80 per cent now preferring digital methods to visiting branches personally.

The high street bank says it will continue to support in-branch users, focusing particularly on those who require extra assistance.

NatWest said: “Like any business, we strive to meet our customers’ changing needs and expectations and we’ve been responding to the industry-wide shift towards digital services by investing to broaden what customers can do themselves and to offer them greater personalisation.

“We recognise that some people still need help to adapt, particularly our vulnerable customers.

“Our customer support specialists proactively contact branch users who we know may need additional support when a branch closes and, where there’s a need, we install community pop-ups to help customers become familiar with alternative banking services.”

Mobile branches and community pop-ups, which will be open for up to 12 weeks following the closures, have been set up for those who find online services difficult to use.

Customers can also make deposits, withdrawals, check their balances and pay utility bills at NatWest Banking Hubs.
