Brit boat passenger, 75, drowns after vessel stops to let passengers swim during tour of Greek island coast

A British tourist has died after drowning while swimming during a boat trip on the Greek island of Kefalonia.

The 75-year-old was pulled from the sea unconscious after going for a swim on Ammoudi Beach on Wednesday morning.

The Brit was on a tourist boat which stopped at the beach to let passengers swim.

He dived into the sea before fellow passengers noticed he was unconscious, pulling him back onto the boat.

The man was given first aid on board and the vessel returned to the Port of Fiskardo.

He was later taken to the Sami Health Center in Kefalonia before being pronounced dead, according to Kefalonia Magazine

The Fiskardo Port Station are currently investigating to find out the exact cause of his death.

The tragedy comes just days after another British man, 74, was found dead on his sun lounger in Crete.

The Brit, who had taken himself to the beach in a bid to enjoy the idyllic sea, went for a swim before sitting on a sun lounger to relax.

However, he then became struck with a ‘strong feeling’ of sickness before losing consciousness.

Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAB) were immediately made aware of the incident and called to the scene.

Emergency services then worked tirelessly in a desperate bid to revive the elderly man, but unfortunately their efforts proved unsuccessful.

The cause of his death is currently unknown, with an autopsy being undertaken.

An FCDO Spokesperson said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.’

It follows a series of deaths of British tourists on beaches in popular tourist hotspots, with a British tourist also found dead on a Greek beach just last month.
