Breaking Bad actor arrested over garden hose incident

The actor who played Tuco Salamanca on the popular shows Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul was arrested in Los Angeles Monday in connection with suspicion of misdemeanor battery.

Raymond Cruz, 60, was taken into custody in connection with suspicion of misdemeanor battery in an incident that took place early Monday, police insiders told TMZ.

A reporting party told authorities that the actor had blasted their daughter with water from a garden hose in front of his home in the Silverlake area of the City of Angels.

The Los Angeles-born actor, who played Sniper in the 2001 film Training Day, had been washing his vehicle at the time, an insider close to the situation told the outlet.

Cruz had asked a woman who parked behind him to get out of the way and when she didn’t, he sprayed her, which she believed he did on purpose. Cruz was processed at the police station on Monday, sources told the outlet.

According to the outlet, the Los Angeles City Attorney would likely handle any potential prosecution of the misdemeanor arrest.

No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon in connection with the case, sources told the outlet.

Prosecutors traditionally have a different protocol when it comes to minor infractions, sources told he outlet. 

They can defer prosecution in lieu of an office hearing.

In such hearings, warnings are issued in exchange for a potential dropping of the charges.

In some cases, people might be given the option to attend anger management meetings in exchange for the charges being dropped, insiders told the outlet. 

Cruz has been active in Hollywood since the late 1980s.

He racked up credits on TV shows of the era such as Knots Landing, Cagney & Lacey and Beauty and the Beast.

Cruz continued working steadily through the 1990s, amassing roles on shows such as The X-Files, The Practice, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Walker, Texas Ranger; Murder, She Wrote and NYPD Blue.

Cruz in the 1990s also appeared in movies including Clear and Present Danger, Under Siege, Out for Justice, The Rock, Alien: Resurrection, Dead Again and Broken Arrow.

Cruz had a big breakthrough in the Oscar-winning film Training Day, playing the mercurial gangster Sniper. He played a key role in the film’s bathroom scene opposite Ethan Hawke, Cliff Curtis and Noel Gugliemi. 

In recent years he has been a regular presence on TV shows such as Major Crimes, playing the role of Det. Julio Sanchez, who works with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Division. 

Cruz appeared on 105 episodes of the TNT crime series from 2012-2018. 

Cruz initially played the role on the TV series The Closer, which he appeared on for 105 episodes from 2005–2012.
