Boy and two adults rushed to hospital after house blaze as roof collapses and 70 firefighter rush to scene

A child and two adults have been rushed to hospital after a fire engulfed a two-storey home in London

Around 70 firefighters and ten engines were sent to the scene of the blaze in Morden, south-west London, shortly after 4am on Tuesday morning.

The fire had ripped through the house’s ground and first floor as well as causing its roof to collapse.

Pictures from the scene show the home ruined, with smoke rising from a large hole at the top of the property and red embers still alight.

One woman, a man and a boy were taken to hospital for treatment after suffering smoke inhalation, the London Fire Brigade said in a statement.

Crews from eight fire stations across London spent more than two hours getting the inferno under control.

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, and LFB is investigating.

‘Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a house fire on Halesowen Road in Morden,’ London Fire Brigade said.

‘The ground floor, first floor and roof of a two-storey end-of-terrace house were destroyed by fire.

‘One woman, one man and a boy were suffering from smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

‘Firefighters used a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to extinguish the fire from above. Crews also cooled one 15 kg gas cylinder to an ambient temperature, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

‘It was removed and placed in a safe location.’

The London Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 4.19am today (27 January) to reports of a fire in Halesowen Road, Morden.

‘We sent two ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response team, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene. The first paramedic arrived in less than five minutes.

‘We treated three patients at the scene and took them all to hospital.’

The Fire Brigade received 17 calls from concerned locals about the fire during the early hours of Tuesday morning with crews from Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden, Wallington, Tooting and Norbury called into action.

The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service were contacted for comment by the Daily Mail.
