Boots shoppers warned over 12-month Advantage Card rule that could see YOU lose cash

BOOTS shoppers have been warned over a rule that could see them lose ALL of their Advantage Card points.

More than 17million shoppers use the beauty retailer’s loyalty card, which lets you collect points when you shop that can be used to pay off your shopping.

Each point is worth 1p – so if you saved 1,234 points, you’ll have £12.34 to spend.

But shoppers can easily be caught out and lose all of their points if they don’t scan their card, a Boots insider told The Sun.

Boots points don’t have an expiry date, but you must keep your account active by scanning your card when you shop.

If you haven’t done this within the last 12 months, the points will expire – and you’ll lose them.

Boots Advantage Card is one of the most generous loyalty programmes available for customers,” A Boots spokesperson said.

“Not only can you access immediate discounts through Price Advantage, but the scheme rewards our most loyal customers with points with every purchase, giving them chance to get an extra little treat on us.”

Boots says most of its customers spend their points twice a year, with most saving them up for at least six months.

Half of its members spend their points on daily essentials like toiletries, hair and medicines, while more than a third splurge on luxuries like premium beauty.

Almost half choose to spend their points over the Christmas season, on gifts either for themselves or friends and family.

Some 4% of Advantage Card members are what Boots calls “serial redeemers”, and choose to spend their points on average seven times a year on daily essentials such as tissues, bottled water, cotton face pads and cleansing wipes.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s ‘secret codes’ revealed

There are other ways to earn Advantage Card points than just shopping in a Boots store.

Earlier this year, the retailer made a huge change to its loyalty scheme which means customers can now earn points by making orders on Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Shoppers can earn a point for every £1 spent on the delivery platforms – just by entering their Advantage Card number at the checkout.

You can also double your points during your birthday month, which is six points for every £1 spent.

But make sure to put your date of birth when signing up so you can access the offer, and remember to add the offer to your card before spending.

How to sign up to the Boots Advantage Card scheme

YOU can sign up for the Boost scheme online and in store.

You can grab a physical card in store, and then register the card online at the Boots’ registration page here.

If you’re signing up online, head to the Boots Advantage Card application page here.

Enter your email address to register.

Or, you can sign up through the Boots app. Download it for free and follow the instructions.

Watch out for other loyalty scheme T&Cs

Boots isn’t the only high street retailer with an expiry rule, so make sure you check the small print on other loyalty schemes you’re signed up to.

If you have signed up to the Sainsbury’s Nectar card scheme, your account may close if no points have been earned or redeemed for at least 12 months.

Tesco Clubcard vouchers usually expire two years after they are issued.

If you have a paper voucher, check the back for the expiry date, or if you have the Clubcard app, head to the “vouchers” section.

If you’re signed up to Costa Coffee’s Costa Club, be warned that your card will be invalid and you won’t be able to transfer your beans to a new one if you haven’t scanned your app within 12 months.
