THE Bondi Beach hero has revealed why he tackled a depraved gunman during the massacre – as he declared “enough is enough” from his hospital bed.
Syrian-born Ahmed Al-Ahmed, 43, was hit by five bullets when he courageously wrestled a huge rifle out of one of the shooter’s hands.
Incredible footage showed the brave dad leaping at suspected terrorist Sajid Akram, 50, from behind and grabbing his gun.
Sajid was later shot dead by a heroic detective, while his accomplice and son Naveed was left in critical condition following the December 14 bloodbath.
Humbly receiving his £1.9million cheque – provided by over 43,000 donors as of December 18 – the tobacconist simply asked: “I deserve it?”
But he also called for an end to the hatred.
He vowed: “We’re not going to stand and keep watching, enough is enough.”
When asked what he wanted to tell the world following his fearless act, Al-Ahmed said: “To stand with each other, all human beings.
“And forget everything bad behind the back [in the past] and keep going to save life. Save lives.”
The courageous bystander continued: “When I do, save the people, I do it from the heart.”
The selfless passer-by explained how everyone on Bondi Beach deserved to enjoy their day before the shooters opened fire – adding: “It’s their right.”
He praised Australia as “the best country in the world”.
Holding up a fist, he added: “God protect Australia. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
It comes after the hero’s former immigration lawyer Sam Issa told The Australian that Al-Ahmed’s injuries are serious – fearing he could lose his arm.
He said: “He’s having multiple surgeries, he’s got five gunshot wounds. It’s a serious injury – far more serious than has been reported.”
The terrifying shooting in Sydney last week killed 15 people including a 10-year-old girl after a father and son duo opened fire on a Jewish event celebrating Hanukkah.
The horror shooting also left 42 wounded in what authorities have described as the deadliest antisemitic attack outside Israel in decades.
Bombshell footage also showed a courageous cop taking cover behind a tree before unleashing a burst of shots towards the ISIS-inspired dad.
Detective Senior Constable Cesar Barraza is the hero officer believed to have fired the fatal shot that ended the beachfront massacre.
Police called the hit a “once in a lifetime shot” and praised the detective’s fearless actions, the Daily Telegraph reported.
It comes as it emerged only two uniformed officers were on duty at the Chanukah by the Sea event when the shooting began.
NSW Premier Chris Minns told Sky News Australia: “The police were tasked with being on the site during the festival.
“My understanding is that there were two in the park during or at the beginning of the shooting, the assassinations.”
“And there were police in the vicinity, so a patrol car pulled up within moments of the firing beginning,” he said.
“I think it’s important to note that police, obviously, when the shooting began, did engage the shooters and there’s two in critical condition in NSW hospitals.”
Witnesses have said the attackers allegedly fired into the crowd for up to 10 minutes as families marked the Jewish festival of lights, The Times of Israel reports.
A 14-year-old girl shot in the attack has also been hailed a heroine after using her injured body to shield two children whose mums lay dead nearby.
Police claim Sajid and Naveed Akram arrived at Bondi Beach in a silver Hyundai Elantra just before 6.40pm, armed with rifles and ammunition strapped to their waists.
The pair had reportedly been staying in a short-term rental in Campsie after travelling to the Philippines weeks earlier – a trip now under scrutiny over possible extremist influence.
Naveed remains in hospital under police guard after waking from a coma on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old has been charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder and one count of committing a terrorist act.
