Blunder-prone Andre Onana ‘riled Amorim by demanding NEW CONTRACT’ when he returned to Man Utd for pre-season

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim was frustrated with Andre Onana when he demanded a new contract upon his return for pre-season.

Onana, 29, struggled last season as he committed a litany of blunders between the sticks that cost United, who endured their worst ever Premier League campaign that saw them finishing 15th.

That led to Man Utd‘s former No1 falling down the pecking order as Amorim, 40, opted for Altay Bayindir in the first three Premier League matches of the season.

The Cameroon international may struggle for minutes this season especially after the £18.5million arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

According to The Athletic, Onana’s position in the Portuguese tactician’s starting line-up was rocked before pre-season even started this past summer.

The same source claims the keeper came back to Carrington wanting a new deal.

The ex-Inter Milan star believed he deserved improved terms since receiving the standard 25 per cent cut for non-qualification to the Champions League.

And the former Ajax star’s stance “did not go down well” with Amorim.

Neverthelsss, United still opted against selling Onana during the summer transfer window.

Even when the Cameroonian’s representatives got in touch asking for clarity the club confirmed he was still part of Amorim‘s plans.

But the Red Devils ultimately decided to sign a new goalkeeper following Bayindir’s blunders in the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez was among the Manchester giants’ top targets.

However, Martinez‘s transfer fee – which cost north of £30m – and his expensive wages made him a backup plan with United turning their attention to Lammens.

Onana only received serious transfer interest from Monaco this past summer but nothing progressed once the French giants found out the shot-stopper costs at least £30m.
