Blaze breaks out at pork scratchings factory as huge flames erupt and 50 firefighters race to scene

A MAJOR fire has broken out at a pork scratchings factory – with plumes of smoke seen pouring out of the building.

Roughly fifty firefighters are tackling the blaze at the factory in Walsall, West Midlands, this evening.

Ten West Midlands Fire Service engines was scrambled to the Bloxwich Food Factory at around 7.20pm.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 7.20pm to reports of smoke in the area.

“Once we confirmed a fire was in progress 7 appliances were sent which were quickly increased to ten.

“We have other vehicles on site including our Command Control Centre and two Hydraulic Platforms.

“Approximately 50 firefighters and personnel are on scene and we are trying to stop the spread of the fire and contain it to the one building.”

It is understood that no one has been injured in the blaze.
