AN ale lover has drunk his way round every pub in the Good Beer Guide — at a cost of £66,000.
Peter Hill, 69, crossed off his 4,500th boozer from the beer drinkers’ bible when he visited The Mermaid in St Albans, Herts, last week.
Since 2019, he has spent £11,000 a year travelling the length and breadth of the country working his way through Britain’s best pubs.
The retired engineer has clocked up more than 130,000 miles on his mission to visit every one in the 2020 Camra guide.
His quest has also taken in the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Alderney and the Isles of Scilly.
Peter, of West Bromwich, West Mids, said: “I pretty much spent my pension on it.
“But I’ve managed to raise £7,150 for charity along the way.
“I’ve had great fun doing it.
“And I’ve met some amazing people.”
The married dad of two’s effort is part of his world’s longest pub crawl.
It involves a 41-year marathon taking in more than 24,000 boozers.
It began in 1984 when Peter and his pals — the Black Country Ale Tairsters — ticked off every pub in Wolverhampton when a pint cost 64p.
