The Beckham clan have maintained a stoic silence since Brooklyn claimed he’d been ‘controlled by a family that values public promotion above all else’.

He went on to accuse them of ‘disrespecting’ of disrespecting Nicola, 31, and said that since being with the actress, he has found ‘peace and relief’ after battling crippling anxiety.

Among the long list of claims he made was that Victoria pulled out of designing his bride’s wedding dress at the ‘eleventh hour’ and then ‘hijacked’ the first dance at his wedding and ‘danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone’.

However, the Beckham clan appeared determined not to allow their family drama to bring them down on Monday, as they made their first public outing together to watch Victoria be named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in Paris.

The award recognises the individual contributions of artists, writers, and cultural figures to the arts and literature, and previous recipients include Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, Jude Law and Denis Villeneuve.

The fashion designer, 51, was joined by David, 50, sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, and daughter Harper, 14, at the ceremony, as well as Romeo and Cruz’s respective girlfriends Kim Turnbull and Jackie Apostel.

In her acceptance speech, Victoria made special mention of her children, as she thanked them for ‘always believing in my vision’, despite Brooklyn’s recent vitriolic claims against her

But Brooklyn was an unsurprising no-show after he previously skipped his father’s milestone 50th birthday bash, the UK launch of his mother’s Netflix show and to see David be knighted at Windsor Castle.

In her acceptance speech, Victoria made special mention of her children, as she thanked them for ‘always believing in my vision’, despite Brooklyn’s recent vitriolic claims against her.

The Spice Girl was presented the prestigious honour by the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, who introduced her with an effusive speech.

Praising her fashion talents, she said: ‘You offered millions of young girls a new representation of themselves.

‘For many you were a true role model, inspiring for each and every one of us a taste of freedom and boldness.’

Taking to the podium in front of the star-studded crowd, with her family standing proudly in front, Victoria began: ‘I’d like to start by thanking the French ministry of culture and the Minister of Culture, Madame Rachida Dati. For this honour and for your kind words, I am extremely grateful.

I am so proud to be British, but France is one of the few places where fashion is treated with the seriousness it deserves as a form of art.’

She then shared special thanks to her business partners and team at her fashion and makeup brand, Victoria Beckham, as well as her kids and beloved husband of 26 years.

‘This is not the achievement of just one person,’ she declared. ‘From design and the atelier, to the production and communication teams, and the many minds and hands working together – it is a collaborative effort, and this distinction isn’t mine alone. So I’d like to thank my incredible team for their dedication, creativity and trust.’

David beamed with pride as he watched on, with son Cruz seen laying a supportive hand on his shoulder, as Victoria thanked him ‘for seeing my passion for this business and my determination to build something that we could both be really proud of’.

‘Thank you to my parents and to my children who are always believing in my vision,’ she continued.

As Rachida pinned the medal to her dress, the crowd broke into a round of applause and cheers, with her delighted family clapping in front.

A slew of the biggest names in fashion were also on hand to support Victoria, including Vogue icon Anna Wintour, former British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful and French model Cindy Bruna.

While Danish supermodel Helena Christensen, 57, was also spotted making a stylish exit from the ceremony, looking radiant in a silk gown under a Victoria Beckham wool coat.

Taking to her Instagram afterwards, Victoria once again paid tribute to her family and to David, calling the former footballer ‘my everything’.

She shared a slew of snaps of her posing with the star-studded guests and her family, alongside a lengthy caption, where she gushed: ‘I’m so honoured to be named a Chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.

‘I have always deeply admired the French aesthetic and the seriousness with which it treats fashion: as a form of art.

‘So to be recognised here and embraced in this way, is a profound privilege — one that reflects decades of commitment and dedication. My sincere thanks to the French Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati for this honour.

‘Thank you also to business partners who believed in me, my family, and especially David — my husband, and original investor. I couldn’t be more grateful, you are my everything xx’.

David reposted the photos and gushed: ‘We are so proud of you and all that you have achieved @victoriabeckham ❤️ Being named a Chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture… nobody deserves it more than you x We love you’.

Romeo also sweetly added: ‘Proud of you mum’, while Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie also shared a gushing and pointed statement to Victoria, after Brooklyn’s cutting words.

She told the mother-of-four: ‘your drive, creativity, resilience but most importantly kindness and respect towards anyone around you are some of the many reasons why you deserve this and more.

‘You lift us all up constantly and it’s so beautiful to witness your hard work be recognised. We love you!!’

Nicola ended up wearing a Valentino gown for her 2022 wedding to Brooklyn (Valentino pictured, who sadly died last week)

The interview was first released with a brief reference as to why Nicola – then aged 27 – didn’t wear a Victoria Beckham designed wedding dress, despite plans to.

A week ago, Brooklyn referenced this when he posted a six-page missive in which he detailed the extent of his feud with his family and claimed Victoria had let Nicola down with the dress design at the eleventh hour.

In light of his claims, Polly Vernon’s interview with Nicola was republished by Grazia on Monday, with Nicola’s quotes about the dress released in forensic detail.

Polly admitted that she suspected Nicola had simply wanted to wear a different dress at the time but now believes re-reading the quotes that Nicola was let down by Victoria, although the full reasons why are unknown.

Nicola said: ‘I really, really wanted to wear [a VB dress] and I thought it was so beautiful that Brooklyn’s mom got to make that for me! And I was really excited to wear it! And I didn’t end up wearing it.

‘The truth is that I was in a text chain with my mom, Victoria and Leslie, who’s been my stylist for 10 years.

‘We all were on this text chain together, and I was so excited to start the design process. Um, and then Victoria, um, was like… Oh! And this was in the middle of me filming [her directorial debut] Lola James! So I was very busy.

‘And then she, Victoria, uh, was very busy, and then we started this text chain, and a few days went by, and I didn’t hear anything, then I think Victoria thought since I was on set, maybe she didn’t want to upset me, so she called my mom and said that she couldn’t make the dress. She said that her, um, atelier couldn’t make the dress in time…’

Her quotes echo what Brooklyn had said in his scathing statement.

He wrote: ‘My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped.

‘My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.’

Brooklyn’s claims about Nicola’s wedding dress refuted long-standing reports from the time of the 2022 nuptials.

Whispers of ructions launched when it was claimed at the time that Nicola refused to wear one of Victoria’s eponymous designs – instead opting for various designs from Valentino, Christian Dior and Versace.

In an article published by Vogue four weeks after their April 2022 nuptials, Nicola’s stylist Leslie Fremar said the dress was a result of a year’s worth of conversations with Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s team.

Then there were two trips to the Rome HQ and two US fittings, making it the ‘ultimate couture experience’.

Hollywood stylist Leslie, who is behind the wardrobes of Demi Moore, Julianne Moore, and Charlize Theron, took two trips to Valentino’s headquarters in Rome to see the design come to life with the brand’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and his team.

There was then two US fittings with Nicola, with the head seamstresses even journeying to Miami to ensure it was tailored perfectly.

Leslie said: ‘It was the ultimate couture experience. The simplicity of it was magnificent. We didn’t have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery.’

Nicola later confirmed the rumours had begun after she didn’t wear Victoria’s design. While she denied there was a ‘feud’, she explained that Victoria’s atelier simply hadn’t had time to make the dress, as she insisted: ‘No family is perfect.’

She told the Sunday Times in 2022: ‘I think it all started, and I’ve said this before, because I didn’t end up wearing Victoria’s wedding dress.

‘But the real truth is I really, really wanted to wear it and I thought it was so beautiful that Brooklyn’s mum got to make that for me.’

As the wedding plans were underway, insiders alleged Victoria was displeased with Nicola’s reluctance to involve her in the plans for the lavish affair.

It was claimed the Beckhams took a backseat on the big day – leading to yet more fury from Victoria, with a source telling the Daily Mail: ‘The top table was all Peltzs and it really felt as though the Beckhams were not at the forefront…

‘There was a feeling that the wedding was all about the Peltz family, as you can imagine, as it was their house and their daughter and their son making the speeches.’

Brooklyn has told his parents they can only contact him through lawyers after becoming frustrated by them mentioning him on social media.

He and his brothers, Romeo and Cruz are no longer following one another on social media – but he was incredibly close to his sister Harper who has barely been mentioned amid the furore.

Brooklyn remains in contact with his grandparents and it’s not known if he is currently in contact with Harper.

The chef had previously paid tribute to Harper on her 14th birthday, even though it’s typical for the Beckham family to post on such occasions.

In the same Grazia interview, Nicola spoke fondly of the young teen, making the distance they’re now facing even more heartbreaking.

The heiress, who is the youngest of eight children, had said how she had ‘wanted a little sister so bad, and Harper is the sweetest. I have the coolest little sister’ adding that Harper liked to send her Snapchats.

Polly concluded that Nicola and Brooklyn seem ‘deeply in love,’ adding: ‘I ended up feeling really quite fond of them both.’

Brooklyn Beckham’s statement in full

I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.

Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.

My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped. My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.

Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children.

They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.

During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me “evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands. Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours.

The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.” Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.

Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last Summer.

My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.

She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.

My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.

Despite this, we still travelled to London for my dad’s birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him. He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner.

When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.

My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.

We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family.’ But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.

The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.

I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.
