BBC staff responsible for doctoring a Donald Trump speech must be sacked, Kemi Badenoch has demanded.
The Tory leader said “heads should roll” at the Corporation for misleading viewers over the President’s remarks.
A leaked internal memo obtained by the Telegraph shows Panorama edited parts of Trump’s speech to make it seem he had encouraged the Capitol Hill riots in 2021.
Ms Badenoch said: “That is fake news, actually putting different things together to make something look different from what it actually was.
“And I do think heads should roll.
“Whoever it was who did that should be sacked, that’s what [Director General] Tim Davie should be doing, identifying who put out misinformation, and sacking them.”
No10 said Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy had been assured the BBC is investigating the programme.
Commons culture committee chair Dame Caroline Dinenage has also written to BBC chairman Samir Shah with concerns.
The Tory MP said: “The BBC clearly has serious questions to answer regarding both its editorial standards and the way in which concerns are handled by senior management.”
Separately, BBC Arabic has been accused of seeking to “minimise Israeli suffering”.
It is also said to have broadcast unchecked stories as well as Gaza death toll claims that were inflated by Hamas.
The allegations emerged after it was revealed the BBC incorrectly reported the International Court of Justice had ruled genocide was taking place in Gaza.
