The Dublin architect became a familiar face on TV shows such as The Great House Revival and My Bungalow Bliss.

He was best known for presenting the popular property shows, as well as his role as a judge on Irish broadcaster RTÉ’s Home of the Year.

Hugh’s husband, Martin Corbett, confirmed the tragic news in a heartbreaking post on Instagram this morning.

Martin wrote: “It is with deep sadness and shock that I share the news my husband and soulmate Hugh Wallace passed away suddenly at home last night.

“I am heartbroken. Please respect my privacy at this deeply painful time.”

Hugh’s quick wit and eccentric on-screen persona made him a keen favourite with viewers through the years.

Outside of his television work, Wallace co-founded the Dublin firm Douglas Wallace Architects.

The TV personality played a key role in developing it into one of Ireland’s most recognisable design consultancies.

A statement on the firm’s website read: ‘It is with deep sadness and shock that we share the news that our beloved Hugh Wallace passed away.

“We are heartbroken. Hugh was widely known and admired for his work as presenter of The Great House Revival and as a judge on Home of the Year.

“His passion, creativity and warmth touched colleagues, audiences, and friends across the country. May he rest in peace.

“The offices of Douglas Wallace will remain closed as a mark of respect.”

Over many decades, he contributed to the design of hotels, retail environments and private homes nationwide.

He frequently emphasised how thoughtful design can foster a strong sense of place and belonging.

Tributes have flooded in for the beloved star following news of his sad passing.

RTE Director General Kevin Bakhurst hailed Wallace’s passion for creative design and his advocacy for the wider benefits of good architecture.

Bakhurst said Hugh was “a hugely popular figure with audiences across the industry”.

He added: “Hugh, with his fellow judges, not only opened the door to the most extraordinary homes in Ireland…

“… but he also inspired viewers to engage with the vast possibilities of innovative design.

“Our thoughts are with his husband Martin, his family, his colleagues in Shinawil, Animo and RTE, and his many close associates.

“…Hugh was a beloved colleague, inspiring mind, and the warmest of friends.”

Wallace appeared as a judge on Home of the Year from 2015
