IN GOOD news for car buyers, almost 50 new electric cars have become eligible for the government’s Electric Car Grant.
The new grant offers up to £3,7500 off new electric vehicles priced under £37,000 to reduce upfront costs, encouraging motorists to ditch the diesel.

The UK Electric Car Grant (ECG) runs from July 2025 to March 2030 and a number of major car brands have leaped at the chance to flog new models over the next few years.
Companies including Citroën, Kia, Nissan and Vauxhall have all recently released cars that reach the criteria that makes them eligible.
The most recent editions to the list of qualifying cars is bargain hatchback Kia EV3 and a brand new special edition Kia EV4 Motion.
The new cars must be priced below £37,00, have a minimum battery range of 100 mile, have specific warranty terms and meet science-based environmental criteria.
The ECG offers two tiers of discount depending on the cars environmental properties.
Band one cars, which have higher sustainability credentials, qualify for the full £3,750 discount .
Band two cars, which meet a lowered set of environmental criteria, are eligible for a £1,500 discount.
There are currently 40 vehicles made by Citroën, Kia, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Volkswagon, Skoda and Toyota that qualify for the band two discount.
Government figures show that over 40,000 drivers have already benefited from the scheme since it launched last Summer.
Only eight cars so far have qualified for the full £3,750 discount, but they have seen a dignificant sales boost.
Here is the full list of eligible cars.
