Australian Public Broadcaster Declares Bondi Beach Attack Had Nothing to Do With Religion – HotAir

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is, essentially, Australia’s BBC—publicly funded government broadcasting with a sheen of independence.

And it is, unsurprisingly, undeserving of the prestige it enjoys. Aimed at credulous midwits, it parrots the left-leaning consensus we have all come to know and loathe as the brand of the transnational elite. And key to that brand is a barely contained disgust for Western culture and an insistence that all problems could be solved by the destruction of Western culture, and especially of Christianity.

The existence of radical Islam proves no barrier to this way of thinking, as long as one assumes that its existence is a result of colonialism and the depredations of the Joos. Hamas was exercising self-defense! Terrorism is just decolonization in action!

By now, we all know the drill. As predictable as it is infuriating, the political and cultural elite will demand we reject the evidence before us, no matter how obvious or damning, that the world doesn’t work as they claim.

Cops found an Islamic State flag in the killer’s car. A group hell-bent on slaughtering infidels.

The attackers attended a radical mosque.

The targets were Jews lighting candles celebrating the first night of Hanukkah. On the anniversary of Hamas’s founding.

What does Tingle think it was based on? Missing breakfast? Naturally they were far more worried about gun laws that wouldn’t have done a damned thing to prevent this.

When you listen to Tingle in the podcast, the effect is even worse than reading what she said. ABC is trying to argue that she was making an academic point that we should distinguish between Islam and extremism, but if you listen to the sneer in her voice and her double insistence that the attack had nothing to do with religion, implying that neither the victims of the attack, being Jewish celebrants, nor the attackers, being Muslims, were relevant.

An ABC spokeswoman defended Tingle, saying her role is to provide analysis.

‘Laura Tingle is a senior and highly experienced journalist whose role as ABC Global Affairs Editor includes providing her assessment and analysis,’ she said.

‘The conversation on the podcast concerned terrorism and radicalisation and the comment was about separating religion from radicalisation.’

The Politics Now podcast aired just hours after the daughter of a Bondi Beach terror attack victim accused the ABC of bias in a live News Breakfast interview.

Speaking to hosts James Glenday and Emma Rebellato, Victoria Teplitsky said her 86-year-old father was shot while trying to escape the gunmen and has since undergone surgery.

When asked by Glenday how she was feeling after the terror attack, Ms Teplitsky said she was ‘angry’ at the nation’s politicians and the public broadcaster.

‘(Anthony) Albanese? (Penny) Wong? Will you listen to us? Will you do something? And ABC, I’ve got to say, will you cut out the biased reporting… will you cut it out? Will you let us have a voice?’ she said.

Really? It’s pretty clear that was not Tingle’s point at all. She wanted to rip away the most important context, which is that Islamists are laser-focused on killing Jews and quite open about it.

Inconveniently for Tingle, her point is not what Muslims think at all. While it is true that the hero of Bondi Beach was himself Muslim, he is being attacked as a traitor for preventing the deaths of more Jews.

That shouldn’t surprise anybody who has lived through the past century, and no doubt it doesn’t surprise Tingle herself; she will instead hand-wave about colonialism and Joos, and insist that the problem is really us.

Tingle has risen through the ranks of the ABC from one prestigious position to the next, analyzing politics and world affairs.

Obviously, her qualification isn’t having a good grasp on reality; instead, she is a perfect mouthpiece for the elite’s vision of how it should be.
