Asda customers can get 3p off a litre of petrol at almost 500 forecourts as supermarket launches new fuel offer

ASDA customers can get 3p off a litre of petrol at almost 500 of its forecourts in a new fuel deal being launched by the supermarket next week.

The retailer is cutting fuel costs for customers who spend a certain amount in its Express stores in the run-up to Christmas.

From Monday December 1, shoppers who spend £15 or more on groceries will get 3p off a litre of fuel.

The deal will last until December 31, and was announced as part of its latest financial results on Friday.

Shoppers will be able to get the discount across Asda’s 488 Express stores.

The retailer is also set to open another 20 of these convenience-style shops by the end of the year.

The most recent of these stores opened on Wednesday, November 26, in Liverpool.

The stores are open from 6am to 11pm every day, and the retailer has pledged to price match a range of everyday essentials – including bread, milk, chicken fillets and cheese – with its larger stores.

Joseph Sutton, Asda Express vice president for foodservice and fuel, said: “We know every penny matters for our customers.

“This offer gives people a little extra help – letting them save on fuel while offering unbeatable value as they stock up on everyday essentials or festive treats in the run-up to Christmas.”

It comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in her Budget on Wednesday that fuel duty would remain frozen for a 15th year, meaning prices won’t rise with inflation.

But the temporary 5p cut will only remain in place until September – after which prices are set to creep back up through a staggered approach.

In a fresh crackdown on fuel prices, forecourts will be mandated to share real-time prices through a new Fuel Finder, so households can find the cheapest prices.

Reeves said this would save the average household £40 a year on fuel costs.

Motorists have enjoyed frozen rates since 2011 thanks to The Sun’s Keep it Down campaign to protect people at the pump.

But it was bad news for EV drivers, who will be hit with a 3p pay-per-mile charge from April 2028.

Asda announced its Q3 financial results on Friday, with the supermarket revealing a botched £1bn IT upgrade which hit product availability on shelves has set the business back by six months amid efforts to turn around its fortunes.

Boss Allan Leighton, who returned to the supermarket chain last year, said its sales slump over the past three months was “self-inflicted” due to disruption from the transition from a previous system linked to former owner Walmart.

It came as the boss also cautioned that consumers are “confused and concerned” following the autumn Budget.

On Friday, Asda revealed that like-for-like sales slid by 2.8% over the third quarter of 2025 after facing “severe disruption” linked to the IT transition.

Asda had been separating more than 2,500 legacy IT systems and moving them on to its own platforms since being sold by Walmart, which still holds a 10% stake, to Zuber and Mohsin Issa and private equity firm TDR Capital in 2021.
