THINKING of giving your home a new lease of life this January?
Well, according to this interior designer you should steer clear of these trends – some of them are already outdated, she claimed.
Taking to TikTok, interiors pro Bee, who posts on social media as @diaryofahomedesginer, said she would pay people not to have certain things in their home.
The clip quickly went viral and amassed over 503k views, but not everyone was on board with her interior vision.
First up, Bee slammed something small that you might not think twice about but is a big no-no as far as she’s concerned – shiny, gold light switches and plug sockets.
She said they’re “definitely going to scratch” and are “already outdated” in the social media clip, but didn’t share what she would go for instead.
Next up, even though marble seems to be all the rage at the moment, there’s a particular style she can’t stand.
“I would pay you to be more original than this,” she said as she showed off the brown and white marbled stone.
Another kitchen and bathroom mistake is black taps, which should be sent back, the pro said.
And when it comes to lighting, you might want to think twice before you go for spot lights.
They might sound like a good idea if you’re after a sleek, modern finish, but according to Bee, they’re a dead giveaway that you didn’t have a plan and just chucked them in.
The interior designer also slammed entirely white or beige living rooms for their boring colour palette, which she said looked “soulless”.
And finally, although coffee table books can be a fun way to add some colour to your home, it’s a bit pointless if they’re not actually something personal to you.
Bee used the designer Prada, Dior, and YSL books as an example, as she said they just show that you don’t actually read.
After she shared her list of interior mistakes people agreed with some of her points, especially the coffee table books.
One commented: “The books are such a no. So tacky.”
“Those books are today’s ‘live, laugh, love’ sign,” someone else joked.
And another slammed: “Black taps are my biggest renovation regret!”
As for the spotlights, people were left divided, as many agreed they don’t look the best but are pretty practical.
“I love my grid spotlights, I have other layers of lighting too but something Bee I just need to be able to SEE,” one said.
But another quipped: “Spotlights are disgusting I hate them.”
