Are These Really Washington State Values? – HotAir

I was in Michigan when this story broke, so I never had the opportunity to write about it. But it really deserves some notice, so I thought I would take a moment to reflect on just how insane the left has become.

Believe it or not, I can wrap my head around the reasoning for mostly open borders. I think the reasoning is flawed, but it is not, in itself, indefensible. If you really believed all the talk about peaceful immigrants just wanting to make a living, that diversity is our strength, that radical Islamists will become fine, upstanding doctors and lawyers and rocket scientists, and that illegal immigrants built America, you might wonder why most Americans are angry about illegal immigrants.

You would have to be practically blind and deaf, but unfortunately not dumb, to believe and say such things, but a lot of people do seem to believe them.

But what is so amazing to me is that Democrats don’t stop there. They literally believe that deporting the worst of the worst–murderers, child rapists, and the like, is immoral. Judges will spirit wife beaters out of court to prevent ICE from deporting them, mayors will let sex offenders out of jail rather than have ICE pick them up, and TV commentators will justify Venezuelan gang members terrorizing communities because “only a few” do such things.

Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson is just such a man. He literally justifies releasing criminals onto the streets rather than allowing ICE to pick them up. Not only is this morally indefensible, but it is also grossly unsafe for the public and law enforcement, who have to capture them again.

Pam Bondi identified this practice, correctly, as violating federal law and warned the state to stop the practice. Ferguson was incensed, and had the gall to hold a press conference denouncing her. He says he wants to preserve Washington values.

Attorney General Bondi sent me a letter last week. It purports to notify me that Washington state “has been identified” as a “so-called sanctuary jurisdiction” — on grounds that her letter makes no effort whatsoever to explain.

Our state legislature passed a bipartisan law that appropriately and lawfully limits the diversion of our state and local resources to federal immigration enforcement. For that, she threatens me, police officers, state troopers, sheriffs, judges, and other officials with prison time.

In the America that I love and have taught my children to revere, we resolve our differences peacefully through public discourse and, if necessary, through the courts — not by threatening political opponents with imprisonment.

I sent her a response today: Washington state will not be bullied or intimidated by threats and legally baseless accusations.

These are Washington values? Releasing sex offenders onto the streets. Violent felons?

Apparently so. Or at least Washington State’s liberal values, which many people do not share.

You may recall that it was the Seattle mayor who declared the George Floyd riots to be the “Summer of Love.” There is, apparently, no level of depravity that Democrats can’t defend. Voting for Donald Trump makes you persona non grata, but not wanting your city burned down, or having drug addicts camping on the streets, makes you intolerable.

Yesterday I wrote about Third Way’s advice to Democrats to quit using certain words, as if the big problem the Democrats have is that they don’t speak like normal people.

That’s true as far as it goes. But it misses the real point: today’s Democrats don’t THINK like normal people. They see sex offenders and murderers as “victims,” and ordinary citizens as oppressors. As long as that attitude persists, they will continue the long slide into irrelevance outside deep Blue areas.

In a state suffering from a massive illegal drug problem, Democrats are considering making the state the premier distributor of illegal drugs in the country.

These are Washington values?

Democratic lawmakers will consider recommendations from a Washington Health Care Authority workgroup that would effectively turn the state into a drug dealer by offering drug addicts access to a “safer drug supply.”

Substance Use Recovery Services Advisory Committee (SURSAC) defines “safer supply” as to refer “to the providing of regulated pharmaceutical options for people who have a substance use disorder to people who have been diagnosed with a substance use disorder.” Under the group’s recommendation, drug addicts would be able to “receive prescribed opioids as an alternative to the illicit, unpredictable drug market.”

As the governor expanded access to abortion, he simultaneously cut off funding to help drug addicted infants–infants who are addicted because Washington is so lenient on drug possession.

Washington values? No thanks.
