Anatomy of an Anti-Israeli Hoax – HotAir

If Bibi Netanyahu had been allowed to destroy Hamas as quickly as possible, the Gaza war would be over, and reconstruction of Gaza would be underway.

Anybody who has studied war knows that the cruelest form of war is a prolonged one. A short, brutal war is far superior for all involved than a long, drawn-out war of any kind. There is ultimately more death, more suffering, and even more damage done to the losing side than in a war of attrition or one, as in Gaza, where the ultimately losing side is slowly bled but not killed quickly.

Obviously, brutality that does not bring a war to a conclusion faster is mere brutality, so I am not endorsing brutality for its own sake. But it is quite clear that the Biden strategy for supporting Israel was destined to prolong the war, extend the suffering of civilians, allow Hamas to keep reconstituting, and turn a short, brutal war into a long, cruel war.

Wars only conclude when the will of the enemy to fight–or their ability to fight–is destroyed. Achieving the first is not easy, but achieving the second is even harder if the war goes on for a long time and they can resupply or reconsolidate their forces. The Biden administration’s holding back of Israel allowed Hamas to do both. It also has allowed Hamas to control the information flowing out of Gaza and shape world opinion with the complicity of the Pravda Media.

Hamas still controls Gaza, and it controls the flow of information out of the Strip, allowing it to create hoaxes that are amplified by a compliant media that employs Hamas stringers to shape their stories. This happened once again on Sunday.

The world was treated to a very successful hoax that smeared Israel as the perpetrator of yet another war crime that was committed by Hamas, all because Pravda wants to blame all bad things on Israel and to prop up Hamas as brave defenders of the Palestinian civilians.

A massacre did indeed take place in Gaza, and there is now video of it taking place. But the news of the massacre went out long  vefore any evidence, and every news outlet reported it just as Hamas wanted it to: the Israelis opened fire, without provocation, on civilians who were seeking humanitarian aid.

The aid was being provided by…Israel, of course…and the implication was that it baited a trap to draw in civilians to be wantonly murdered. That is what was reported by all the media because it was what Hamas told them, and there is no more reliable source than Hamas, right? They so trust Hamas that almost 100% of the reporters they employ in the Gaza Strip are Hamas operatives–nobody else can operate in the Gaza Strip without being attached to an Israeli military unit, after all. There is no “infiltration” of the media at all–all the international news organizations know who they are hiring.

The New York Times even justified hiring a Nazi sympathizer, and when he was exposed they chastised him for using social media to reveal his sympathies; they continued to use him as a reporter, just as the Associated Press used a photographer who participated in the October 7th masacre.

As video came out from the aid distribution center proving that the massacre didn’t take place there, a shifting story in the media–shifting, but always blaming Israel–developed. It never occurred to anybody that their initial reporting was wrong, because in their mind, the actual facts didn’t matter. Israel was at fault no matter what actually happened.

More video has come out showing–surprise–Hamas warriors committing the atrocity. Does this matter? Perhaps you might say that it matters in the way that the Palestinian rocket misfiring and landing in a hospital courtyard, killing an unknown number of civilians, matters. At some point in the future, the event will be memory-holed, but the stain on Israel remains, and the damage has been done.

Pravda will keep reporting what Hamas tells them to, and they will explain, the few times they have been challenged, that early reports plausibly suggested that Israel was at fault, and in the fog of war, they got it just a tad wrong.

Yeah, no. If the Pravda Media wanted to convey facts, they would have reported facts, and there were no facts that showed Israel committed an atrocity yesterday or bombed that hospital back then. There were Hamas reports that these things happened, and the media amplified them.

No media waited for the facts to come out–they saw an opportunity to smear Israel on behalf of Hamas and took it, secure in the knowledge that there would be no accountability for being wrong.

These “news” outlets are stenographers for their favored friends, whether it is Democrats here in America, the transnational elite abroad, or Hamas in the Middle East. They have no allegiance to facts, and none at all to their viewers or readers.

Trust me, they will pay no price for getting this so wrong, and in their view, they didn’t. They accomplished their goal.
