BENSON Boone cancelled his gig in Birmingham just one hour before it was due to start.
The Beautiful Things singer said he’d “tried everything” to get his voice up to scratch ahead of his show at the Utilita Arena on Saturday.
Benson is performing around the U.K as part of his American Heart Tour and issued a heartfelt statement posted to his social media explaining why he was pulling the plug on the Birmingham show.
“Birmingham I am so so sorry but I will not be able to perform tonight,” Benson began adding, “I have tried everything I can to revive my voice, but I cannot give you the show I’d like to be able to give you with the condition of my throat right now.”
“This is genuinely the crappiest feeling.”
He continued: “I promise you I will do everything in my power to make it up to you… thank you for everything you do. I love you guys so much.”
The Utilita Arena also issued a statement telling concert goers, it was “working through all possible options to reschedule”.
“We understand how disappointing this is and sincerely apologise for the extremely short notice and inconvenience caused,” it added.
It is not known if Benson will continue with the tour which has three dates left, all of which are in London starting on Monday.
Benson first gave fans a hint that something was wrong with his voice during his shows in Glasgow and was later reviewed by a doctor.
The Glasgow Times reported that Benson could not “say a single word” after the show.
Fans hoping to meet him after his Glasgow posted a video to TikTok where a member of his team updated them about his voice.
He told the fans: “As you guys know, Benson is a little ill. He can’t say a single word. He has to go and see a doctor tomorrow so that he can perform in Birmingham.
“He’ll come out and wave at you guys. He can’t sign anything or take personal pictures. I told him we weren’t even going to come out here but you know how he is, he is nicer than I am. He wants to make sure he acknowledges you guys.
“But, he has to save his voice.”
Benson’s first brush with fame came when he competed on the reality TV singing series, American Idol in 2021, but withdrew from the competition.
But he propelled to international stardom thanks to his Beautiful Things hit which was the second-most streamed song on Spotify in 2024.
Benson released his second studio album, American Heart, this year and has been touring the world with it.
