ACU Announces Online Bachelor of Science in Social Work

Abilene Christian University (ACU) has launched a new fully online Bachelor of Science in social work, expanding access to one of today’s most vital helping professions. Designed for individuals called to serve others through advocacy, support and leadership, this program equips students to make a lasting impact in their communities through flexible, purpose-driven education.

ACU’s online bachelor’s in social work prepares students to address the needs of vulnerable, oppressed and at-risk populations. Rooted in Christian values and evidence-based practice, the program offers a fully online learning experience that meets the needs of working adults and first-time students alike. The curriculum includes courses such as:

    • Foundations of Social and Economic Justice
    • Theoretical Frameworks for Social Work
  • Principles of Practice: Ethics and Engagement
  • Practice III: Communities and Organizations

“ACU is committed to developing ethical professionals who serve with integrity, skill and compassion,” said Dr. Stephen Johnson, chief executive officer of ACU Dallas. “This new online bachelor’s program reflects our mission to prepare students with the education and skills to be change agents in their communities.”

The program provides a strong foundation for students seeking to begin their careers in social work or continue to graduate-level education. With job opportunities in schools, hospitals, nonprofits and government agencies, the field of social work continues to grow in both demand and significance.

“Social workers are often the bridge between people in crisis and the resources they need to thrive,” said Dr. Stephanie Hamm, program director. “This program is about more than a degree—it’s about preparing students to bring hope, healing and justice to the communities they serve.”

Applications for the online Bachelor of Science in Social Work are now open, with the first cohort beginning in January 2026. Students will benefit from dedicated faculty, academic advisors and personalized support designed to ensure success from enrollment through graduation.
