A12 closed in one direction after serious crash with drivers stranded for over five hours & warned of rush-hour delays

A MAJOR road has been closed following a “serious collision” leaving rush hour drivers delayed for hours.

Motorists on the A12 in Essex have been facing down serious delays of up to five hours since the early hours this morning.

The busy A road has been closed between J15 Margaretting and J16 Chelmsford.

Emergency services are still on scene after racing to respond to the horror crash.

National Highways and Essex Police remain on scene to assist with traffic management and diversion routes.

Drivers have been instructed to expect delays to their journey and were warned to plan ahead.

National Highways said: “The A12 in Essex is CLOSED northbound between J15 (Margaretting) and J16 (Chelmsford) due to a serious collision.

“Emergency services are in attendance. More details to follow shortly.

“Please allow extra journey time if travelling in the area.”
