‘A little silly’ – Watch furious Scottie Scheffler’s shocking reaction as world No1 golfer misses 10ft putt

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER left fans stunned when he furiously launched his ball into the lake after missing a putt at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The American, 29, was looking to make par on the 18th hole at Bay Hill Club in Orlando.

But Scheffler failed to sink the 10ft putt – leaving him to settle for a bogey.

And the world No1 sensationally lashed out, tossing his ball into the lake in disgust.

Scheffler was then spotted being animated in front of television cameras and needed a few minutes to regain his composure.

The golf sensation said: “You can always hit it softer. I was surprised the ball picked up speed as it was rolling.

“There’s no friction. When the ball starts rolling, you’re at the mercy of the wind and the bumps.”

The costly error left Scheffler sitting ten shots adrift of red-hot leader Daniel Berger.

And the two-time Masters champion was critical of the greens after going the first two days of the Arnold Palmer Invitational three under par.

Scheffler added: “It’s been like this before. Typically here, if you go late Friday, they’re pretty much already dead.

“It’s not anything unusual. It’s a good test. It’s hard.

“There are certain holes that get a little silly because the run-ups are soft and the greens are so firm. But it’s like that every year.

“This year is actually less windy. If we had crazy wind, they probably would have had to stop.”

Scheffler also made a nightmare start to the season in January – when he struck a fan with his tee shot at the La Quinta Country Club in California.

Berger, 32, goes into day three of the Arnold Palmer Invitational sitting five shots clear of the field.

The American is on course to bag the £15million prize pot if he maintains his form.

Rory McIlroy is tied for ninth spot after going the first two days of the competition four under par.
