Anti-Catholic Crusade at FBI Was Bigger than Chris Wray Admitted – HotAir

Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are ostentatiously “Catholic,” despite their rejection of the core moral teachings of the Church.

They–and most liberals who see the Church as one of their main opponents in the culture war–have been doing their best to redefine what it means to be a Catholic (or Christian, for that matter), and have been using the power of the government and their influence in the media to ostracize from society anybody who believes in the core teachings of the Church.

One of the ways that the Biden administration tried to accomplish this goal was by labeling traditional Catholics as potential “Domestic Violent Extremists” and creating a category of “Christian Nationalists” who present a threat to ordinary Americans. Just as any parent who was upset by the invasion of Critical Theory and alphabet ideology into the schools was a terrorist, the same was said of Catholics who chose to worship in the same manner that all Christians did for nearly two millennia.

When the FBI’s infamous memo labeled traditional Catholics potential terrorists and part of a “hate group,” FBI Director Christopher Wray was hauled before Congress to answer for this. He assured Congress and the American people that the memo was the product of a single FBI office and had no influence on FBI policies and activities.

He was lying

Far from being an obscure memo and unique, Senator Chuck Grassley has found evidence that the FBI was working on more position papers labeling traditional Catholics extremists and on enhanced surveillance of these worshippers. When caught, the FBI did the electronic equivalent of shredding documents to hide the evidence from Congress.

The Biden-era FBI concealed the extent of its anti-Catholic operation, which then-FBI Director Christopher A. Wray told Congress was limited to a single 2023 memo, newly revealed bureau documents show.

The FBI files were obtained by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley and shared first with The Washington Times.

The files show that the agency was engaging in a bureauwide investigation of “Radical Traditionalist Catholics,” but Mr. Wray and other top FBI officials characterized it as a one-off memo.

Quelle surprise. An FBI Director lying to Congress?! Say it isn’t so!

The new documents show that the Richmond memo dated Jan. 23, 2023, also known as the Richmond Domain perspective, was distributed on Feb. 2 to more than 1,000 FBI employees nationwide.

None of the FBI recipients appeared to respond to the Richmond office with concerns. The Richmond office received only positive feedback about mitigating the threat posed by “Radical Traditionalist Catholics,” Mr. Grassley said.

The FBI field office in Buffalo, New York, told other FBI officials in an email that two Catholic groups “included in the Richmond Domain perspective” and identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as “hate groups” were in its area of responsibility.

Mr. Grassley told Mr. Patel that the email “raises serious concerns that FBI field offices may have relied on the Richmond memo, and placed groups in their areas of responsibility under suspicion based on reporting from the deeply biased sources used in the memo.”

The newly revealed documents show that the Richmond field office worked with the FBI office in Louisville, Kentucky, to gather information about Catholic traditionalist groups from the Louisville area.

FBI analysts in Richmond also consulted with the Portland, Oregon, and Milwaukee field offices as they prepared the memo.

The Southern Poverty Law Center. For God’s sake. Are they going to bring on David Brock as a consultant as well? Is Howard Zinn required reading? Do they distribute copies of the 1619 Project as summer reading?

It is impossible to overstate how deeply politicized and corrupted the FBI and all our intelligence agencies have become over the past few years. To say they have been weaponized against any dissenters from the leftist orthodoxy is as accurate as calling a thermonuclear weapon an explosive–true, as far as it goes, but more than a mild understatement.

The crime here was bad enough, but the cover-up makes it even worse. As has become standard for our intelligence officials since at least the Obama administration, when caught committing a big no-no, the top officials go before Congress and simply lie. Perjury has become a way of life, and why not?

Are there ever consequences? No. Never. The worst that happens is that only MSNBC will platform them instead of every news outlet in the world, and that is rare enough.

Grassley said the second memo is proof “once again that Director Wray’s previous testimony to Congress that the Richmond analysts produced a ’single product’ was false.”

“Nevertheless, this draft external memo repeated the unfounded link between traditional Catholicism and violent extremism that was present in the internal Domain Perspective,” he added. “It also contained different content from the internal Domain Perspective, notably deleting references to the Southern Poverty Law Center.”

Wray was unequivocal about the unique nature of the anti-Catholic memo, insisting that it had no influence on FBI efforts to combat extremism. Clearly, he was lying, since he helped orchestrate a cover-up of the whole affair, and how wide this anti-Catholic effort was.

Perhaps I shouldn’t really call it anti-Catholic, though. Catholics were just one target in the larger effort to delegitimize traditional values in favor of radical ideologies. Catholics are rarely lumped in with so-called “Christian nationalists,” and parents showing up to school board meetings come from all religious persuasions.

Catholics just stand out as a separate religious group because the teachings against abortion and alphabet ideology are part of the core theology. Protestant denominations are all over the map on these issues, so the “bad” ones fall into a different category.

Whatever the case, under Biden, it was official US government policy that law enforcement should be sent after dissenters.

It was necessary, I suppose, to preserve democracy and freedom of conscience or something.

Will Wray pay a price for lying to Congress?

Fat chance.
