Maddison, who missed he match through injury, was over the moon at the club winning its first trophy since the 2007/08 League Cup final.

But he used an interview with CBS Sports to aim a dig at United legend Keane, who earlier this season criticised his lack of consistency.

He told Peter Schemeichel: “I wasn’t gonna do any interviews, but I heard Roy Keane was in the studio tonight.”

The England midfielder was then asked by Micah Richards to whip out his trademark darts celebration, to which he replied: “Oh, I will, Micah, with pleasure!

Keane didn’t shy away from Maddison’s post-match jibe, doubling down on his critique of the 28-year-old with a backhanded compliment.

The Irishman said: “I always said he was a good player but he needs to be more consistent. And he played well tonight!”

Tottenham ratings: Bissouma dominates Europa League final as occasion gets to Udogie

BRENNAN JOHNSON was Tottenham’s hero as they finally ended their 17-year trophy drought in the Europa League final.

Despite being without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski for the clash in Bilbao, Spurs came up with a massive win against Manchester United.

Johnson scored the goal as he helped bundle in from a corner in a tussle with Luke Shaw to send fans into dreamland.

But Spurs also owe a huge thanks to Yves Bissouma who was totally dominant in midfiend.

At the other end, Destiny Udogie struggled to get up to the pace of the match as he was up against Manchester United’s Amad Diallo.

Spurs had just three shots, only 27 per cent of the ball, and completed a mere 115 passes over 90 minutes.

But it didn’t matter, as United never really looked like finding a leveller to take it to extra time.

SunSport’s Henry Tomlinson gave his ratings for the Tottenham players

“They said I had to put the kit on to get a medal!” he explained when asked about being in the kit. “I didn’t want to do a John Terry!

“What a special feeling. Winning makes [the season] all alright – the pain of not being able to play is not being able to help the team.

Richarlison bangs on drum and celebrates with Tottenham fans following Spurs Europa League triumph

“It is a brilliant achievement and a way to qualify for the Champions League but it is more winning for the fans.

“They have had years of pain.”

The lacklustre defeat to Spurs underlined the size of the job Ruben Amorim has on his hands at Old Trafford.

And the Portuguese has vowed to leave the club for FREE if the Red Devils brass don’t believe he’s the right man for the job.

He said: “I have nothing to show to the fans, so in this moment it is a little bit of faith [that is required].

“Let’s see [on the future]. Like I said before, I am always open.

“If the board and fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation.

“But I will not quit. I am really confident in my job and, as you see, I will not change nothing in the way I do things.”
