A HOMEOWNER who was fed up of looking at their neighbour’s “scruffy” garden has shared their £13.99 solution which blocks it out completely.
They decided to have a look at privacy fence options, when they came across a budget-friendly idea during an Internet hunt.
The four-metre roll of peeled reed forms a natural fence screening, which doesn’t look out of place in a garden.
Not only that but it takes just seconds to set up, and is durable enough to withstand some of the UK’s windiest days.
As an added bonus, the roll costs just £13.99 from online retailer Primrose.
“Enhance your garden with this robust and eco-friendly peeled reed fence screening roll, perfect for improving existing fences, adding privacy, or creating stylish natural garden dividers,” they said of the roll in a post on their website.

“It is strong and durable and can be used on its own or attached to existing walls or fences to increase height while maintaining a natural aesthetic.”
Once they’d chosen the fence and put it in place, they returned to the Primrose website to share their honest review of the product.
“The boundary fence and leylandi (owned by my neighbour) are a bit scruffy so I just wanted something to mask them,” the homeowner wrote.
“A friend suggested screening so I decided to explore.
“I was very pleased to find that your screening came in a selection of heights and varieties so I found the perfect one for my needs.”
They added that while they’re “no gardener”, the screening was “light and easy to put up”.
“It also makes the area lighter!” they admitted.
And they weren’t the only chuffed customers who found that using the screening roll made their green space look lighter.
“Finally got around to putting up the screening today,” someone else wrote.
“It was a lot easier than expected and I am delighted with the result.
“The garden looks so much lighter!”
“Well worth the cost,” another added.
How to create privacy in your garden
CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:
1. Fencing
- Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.
2. Hedges and Plants
- Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.
3. Outdoor Curtains
- Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.
4. Sound Barriers
- A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.
“The screening is exactly what I wanted and will give me privacy whilst a hedge is growing,” someone else said.
As another commented: “The reed screening is excellent.
“It looks very nice and I’ve already had lots of nice comments on it!”
