This is all this buffoon has to do?
BREAKING: Mayor Brandon Johnson backs plan to eliminate Columbus statues from Chicago’s parks pic.twitter.com/fzXK5745B1

It’s pretty amazing how, in the hands of Democrats, what is often promised as a ‘temporary’ solution to soothe ruffled feathers (read: mollify their peevish or destructive voting bloc) somehow always winds up becoming permanent in the long run, justification be damned.
This has happened in Chicago, where the progressive, woke, victim-hood/grievance industry has yet to relax its grip on the throat of a city in the control of quite possibly one of the most racist, intellectually challenged, mentally unfit, and ethically execrable big city mayors ever in the history of this country.
Brandon Johnson, totally bought and paid for tool of the Chicago Teachers’ Union, is the whole pathetic package of spastic, rapacious incompetence in a singularly unattractive lump of inarticulate, petulant putty.
This miserable race-bating cretin, still in the midst of board battles over payday loans to finance his CTU overlords’ extortionary contract demands, has found yet another way to drive the racial divisions even further apart.
Back in the fiery but peaceful Summer of Love, Chicago had its own version of Black Lives Matter-inspired statue whacking.
There had once been quite a handsome statue of that now reviled Italian explorer – Christopher Columbus – standing in the city’s Grant Park.
Sculpted by Carlo Brioschi, the statue had been unveiled in 1933 as both an homage to the city’s 100th anniversary and as part of the World’s Fair being held at the same time, themed ‘A Century of Progress.’
…Since Christopher Columbus was a primary themed focus for the 1893 fair, the Italian American community sought to make Columbus a prominent presence at the Century of Progress. A site was provided in Grant Park not far from the lakefront Fairgrounds south of Roosevelt Road.
In 2020, that was like a beacon to moths, and all the rampaging scum of the city were drawn as if to a flame. They danced madly around the offensive inanimate art piece and demanded its removal while physically assaulting anyone who stood between them and it – the colonizer must be destroyed!
Unsurprisingly, it sounds like the crowd doesn’t want the press to record them trying to tear down the statue. https://t.co/8TOL2Nl84r

It was literally a hot mess.
Air footage showing the onslaught of projectile weapons and explosives thrown at police in Chicago who were protecting a Columbus statue yesterday. What stands out to me is the organized brigade of black bloc militants using umbrellas as cover. pic.twitter.com/CBwoyB4jBz

Disgracefully, the city and Mayor Lori Lightfoot, like so many others that summer, caved to the mob.
The empty Columbus statue pedestal in Chicago today.
Removing this magnificent landmark and work of art represents a total abdication, a capitulation to the mob of Marxist malcontents. pic.twitter.com/OJ6SIXtNyp

At least it went into storage, unlike the fate of a brother statue Brioschi had created for the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. That was toppled and basically destroyed by a like-minded BLM group that same summer.
The Joint Committee on Italian-Americans sued the city the following year, trying to get Columbus returned to his pedestal based on an agreement the city had signed twenty years before. As of 2023, Columbus statues that disappeared from city property all over were, Lightfoot insisted, only gone ‘temporarily.’
For the fourth year in a row, Chicago’s Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans will mark Columbus Day while the city’s three statues of Christopher Columbus remain in storage, hidden from public view.
Ron Onesti, the group’s president, said it will be painful to once again celebrate the legacy of the Italian explorer hired by the Spanish king and queen in 1492 to find a westward route to China, India and Japan who nevertheless ended up in what is now North America, knowing that the statues have been gathering dust for nearly 1,172 days.
…Although progressive groups urged city officials to permanently mothball the statues, which they said celebrated White supremacy and the slaughter of indigenous Americans, Lightfoot vowed that the statues’ pedestals would be empty only temporarily.
But Lightfoot never moved to reinstall the statues, acknowledging they would immediately become a magnet for protests that could turn violent, requiring around-the-clock police protection.
And now here we are.
Where are the Columbus statues?
Well, the city and the Joint Committee have settled the lawsuit, and, man – people are pissed.
So the City of Chicago has decided they will not put the Columbus statue back.
The reason behind not putting it back up makes me believe that officials know that “progressive groups” will not behave. pic.twitter.com/zjvwI3CpeX

The explorer will not be returning to his spot in the park – any of the parks. If there are any versions left of him in a Chicago park somewhere, the statue won’t be there for long, if it’s up to Brandon Johnson.
One of these days, one version of him is going to be in a building, but no one’s quite sure when.
‘S’all good, says Johnson.
…The Chicago Park District confirmed last week it has reached a settlement with the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA) regarding the Christopher Columbus statue removed from Arrigo Park in 2020. That statue, taken down during a wave of national protests, will now be loaned to the JCCIA and displayed inside a building it owns that will house an Italian immigrant museum.
Mayor Johnson said the move aligns with a broader effort to reflect truth and shared humanity in public art:
“Art and culture in particular is something that I don’t believe we should erase,” Johnson said. “And we do have to make sure that our presentation is depicting not just truth, but the best part of our existence, which is our collective humanity.”
I swear to God, he doesn’t ever make a lick of sense when he opens his mouth.
No one is falling for the Columbus in the museum trick.
…The news this week is that the controversial Columbus statue, removed from the Chicago Parks to appease the Democrat Party and the rest of the anti-American hard left, will return to Taylor Street. At least that’s how gullible Chicago media is framing the issue.
Not so says Lou Rago, former president of the JCCIA–Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans.
This narrative, Rago says, is a self-serving lie.
“JCCIA President Ron Onesti and select board members are peddling the narrative that the statue is being returned to its rightful and historic place in public view in the Taylor Street neighborhood,” said Lou Rago of the Italian American Human Relations Foundation.
“The truth is: Under a long-rejected deal proposed initially by former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the statue will be hidden away indoors—out of public sight—as part of an undefined ‘museum-style’ exhibit.” This is not a return; it is a burial,” Rago said.
“The level of betrayal is staggering,” said Carlo Vaniglia. “This is cultural treason. The JCCIA leadership has traded a symbol of our heritage and pride for political favor and personal convenience.
“They’ve sold out our community.”
I’ve spent decades covering Chicago politics, watching the squabbling of so-called “leaders,” but here I must agree with Rago and Vaniglia. It is as if it were planned, an inside job. The one question the Italians of Chicago might ask themselves is Cui Bono? Who stands to benefit?
And the big, beautiful, historic Columbus from the massive pedestal in Grant Park?
…The park district did not say what will happen to the Columbus statue removed from Grant Park.
The statue in Grant Park had been the subject of high-profile protests in 2020 — including one where police and protesters violently clashed, leaving dozens of protesters and police officers injured. At that protest, protesters scaled the statue, threw ropes around it and tried to pull it down.
I guess they should put out a missing person for that third Columbus statue.
Then again, why bother?
With the woke, race-baiting loons still in place, if it’s still in one piece, it’s probably safer wherever it is right now than having the progressive history demolition crew reminded that it exists.
