One of the tensions in Rory McIlroy‘s marriage to Erica Stoll is set to be resolved in the coming weeks – with the Masters champion set to make a major move.
For the past few years, the McIlroys have been building a home in England near the Wentworth Club in Surrey.
Now, the family is set to make that house a home in a few weeks time – with the McIlroy’s set to officially move-in after the US Open at Oakmont in June.
McIlroy will have a few major tournaments to get through beforehand – including the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
But after McIlroy tees it up at the US Open in western Pennsylvania, his family will move to the UK full-time after spending the past few years in Jupiter, Florida.
McIlroy bought the home in one of the most popular towns for professional golfers from Ernie Els back in 2017.

Stoll and McIlroy have been living in the Florida heat – a climate Stoll hasn’t particularly enjoyed

Stoll and McIlroy were briefly headed for divorce in 2024, only to stop proceedings weeks later
However, Stoll – a native of upstate New York – has made her distaste for the heat of south Florida well known.
Now, her wish for a cooler climate has been granted and the family – Rory, Erica, and their daughter Poppy – will be UK residents soon. Reports indicate the family will keep the house in Florida for when McIlroy is competing on the PGA Tour.
Stoll’s fondness for a more mild climate was touched on in the Netflix docuseries Full Swing when German golfer Martin Kaymer spoke with McIlroy about a time he bumped into the Irishman’s better half.
‘I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once, and she said, ‘I really don’t like the sun.’ I said, ‘Your state’s called the Sunshine State, right?”
McIlroy continued: ‘If it was up to her [Stoll], she wouldn’t move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.’
The Irishman and his wife had a rocky 2024, when McIlroy served Stoll with divorce papers.
At the time, rumors suggested that McIlroy was involved in a relationship with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis – a rumor which has neither been addressed by either of the two parties, nor confirmed.
In the months that followed, McIlroy and Balionis have shared a number of encounters that fans have branded awkward after the Irishman quickly called off the divorce from Stoll in one of the bigger plot lines from a drama-filled 2024 golf season.

Speculation emerged last year of a possible romance between McIlroy and Amanda Balionis

Last month, Rory capped off his career grand slam with a Masters win long in the making
But now, he’s set to move the family across the pond to a home they visited after McIlroy finally capped off his career grand slam at Augusta last month.
‘Straight after Augusta, we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches,’ McIlroy told the Telegraph. ‘It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood.’
McIlroy’s career grand slam was a crowning achievement – his first major championship in over a decade and his first win at a course he’s nearly won at many times.
It wasn’t an easy victory as the County Down native had to recover from some final round mistakes and still missed his putt to win it outright on the 18th, forcing a playoff against Englishman Justin Rose.
But McIlroy won it on the first playoff hole with a birdie putt to claim his first green jacket and become the first European to clinch the grand slam.
The Masters might not be the only major championship on offer for McIlroy this year.
Next up is the PGA Championship next week at the aforementioned Quail Hollow. McIlroy has won four tournaments at that course – typically home to the Truist Championship [formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship] – including his first ever PGA win back in 2010.
Following on from that is Oakmont, a course he’s played only once, before the final major of the year – when The Open is played on the Emerald Isle at Royal Portrush in County Antrim.
