Four savvy ways to save on delivery charges when shopping online

THE ease of shopping online means more of us are buying items with just a few taps on a screen from the comfort of home.

But delivery charges can sting the pocket and mean you pay far more for items than you would in person.

Here’s how to save:

HIT THE LIMIT: Many retailers offer free delivery when you spend a certain amount. If you’re close to the threshold it can be worth bumping up the order with a small item to save on charges.

For example, if you need to spend £50 and have an order of £45, you may want to add something extra for £5.

Rather than add something obscure that you may never use, opt for items that you will always have a need for, such as toilet roll or socks.

AMAZON TOOL: You will get free delivery when buying on Amazon and spending at least £35.

But you will pay standard charges if your order is below this limit and you don’t have an Amazon Prime subscription.

If you want to hit the threshold and aren’t sure what to add to an order, head to Amazon’s supersaverdeliverytool.com.

Here you can give the amount that you need to spend for free delivery and the tool will then give you a list of items — even ones that are available for just pennies if you are just shy of £35.

COLLECT FOR LESS: It’s easiest to get items delivered direct to your door, but sometimes you have the option of getting your order dropped at lockers or pick-up points.

These locations are often at local convenience shops and typically cost less for delivery than your doorstep.

CHECK FOR CODES: It’s worth checking websites such as myvouchercodes.co.uk or vouchercodes.co.uk which list current money-saving codes including free delivery.

You can also look up individual retailers to see what’s available.
