In the battle of the Dutchman, it was Danny Noppert who took the first win of round 2 to move into the quarter-final stage on Sunday.
Nijman won the first two legs of the match before Noppert – who entered as the seeded player – fought back to make it 3-3.
Noppert then had to climb himself out of a hole as Nijman took a 5-3 lead and needed just one leg to progress into the last eight.
He did just that with Nijman’s trouble on the doubles – he hit just 5/20 – really costing him.
Noppert will face the winner of Jonny Clayton vs Andrew Gilding, who play this evening at around 6.30pm.
