Alan Shearer revealed he had a pop at his soon-to-be rugby star son-in-law after he nearly missed a family outing at the London Marathon.
Over 50,000 runners lined up for the iconic race in the capital on Sunday morning, from fancy-dressers to celebrities, and thousands more cheered them on from the sidelines – mainly friends and family.
But one runner was almost a supporter short when Micky Young of Newcastle Falcons got on a train in the completely wrong direction when attempting to travel south to watch his future brother-in-law run.
Shearer’s son, Will, ran the 26.2mile course in just under 4hrs 39mins, and was greeted by a host of family members at the finish line.
The Newcastle great was joined by his wife Lainya and daughters Hollie and Chloe on the sidelines, as well as Micky, who is dating Chloe, 31. But he almost didn’t make it, having got on a train from Newcastle to Edinburgh instead of London.
But he made it to the course in time, with Shearer detailing his frustrations on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, leaving podcast co-hosts Gary Lineker and Micah Richards seeing the funny side of things.

Will’s daughter’s boyfriend Micky Young (right), though, got on the wrong train as he attempted to make it to London
‘He got to the train station and got there five minutes early,’ Shearer said of Micky, who intended to travel down later on Saturday after watching Newcastle beat Ipswich 3-0 in the Premier League.
‘He got on the train and then after 15 minutes on the train, he heard the announcement: ‘Welcome to everyone who’s got on this train to Edinburgh’.
‘It was non-stop, all the way to Edinburgh. He’s had to go from Newcastle to Edinburgh and that’s the last train. He looked at different modes of transport, flights, cars.’
‘He got on the f***ing megabus,’ Shearer added. ‘The 10 o’clock megabus, which cost him 30 quid, from Edinbrugh to London. He got in at 6:45 this morning.
‘I said to him, “And you are meant to be looking after my f***ing daughter in the future!”
Shearer, whose other daughter Hollie is dating England rugby star Joe Marchant, was seen in a white shirt and jeans as he cheered on his son, also donning black sunglasses alongside the rest of his family.
They stopped at the half-way mark to cheer Will on, before greeting him at the finish line as he posed with his medal.
Will ran in support of the Alan Shearer Foundation, which supports more than 5,000 members and their families access life-enhancing therapies and activities free of charge.

Lineker left the recording of his The Rest is Football podcast early to celebrate with Will
Shearer left the recording of the podcast early, with the show seemingly recorded on Sunday. The Match of the Day trio had analysed Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final, before Lineker said: ‘Happy travels, Alan.’
Shearer responded: ‘Cheers boys, thank you. Have a good night, I’m off to have a few more.’
On the London Marathon itself, he added: ‘I have to say, it’s unbelievable. The atmosphere and the coming together of everyone, honestly, everyone is just so happy.’
