I was so high on gas and air while giving birth that I asked the midwives to rate how much fun they were having

A new mother has revealed some of the hilarious things she said while under anaesthesia during labour – and even asked her midwives to rate how much fun they were having out of ten.

Emma, a Birmingham City University student, shared her experience in a video on TikTok which has gone viral, with more than 116,000 likes.

The student, who welcomed a daughter less than a week ago, took to social media to share the unfiltered video which captured her reaction to giving birth.

In the clip, Emma, sucking on gas and air, provided hilarious commentary on the life-changing experience.

During the montage, the law student said: ‘What a process this is’, as she lay back on a bed, sucking on the anaesthesia while wearing a hospital nightgown and pink bonnet.

She then added: ‘You can’t just push out a baby and call it a day’ while a midwife, seemingly trying not to laugh, agreed it was a long process.

Other funny comments included: ‘Honestly us mothers innit mummy,’ and telling her sister off for suggesting she didn’t need more gas and air.

Then, faking an American accent, Emma told her sister who was filming her: ‘I aint ever did a whip a day in my life – get that on camera not like all the rest of you at university. I only do this medicated.’

Still under the anaesthetic, Emma then calls out for her baby, saying: ‘Where’s my good sis, my baby?’ before comparing the gas and air mouthpiece to a trumpet, miming playing while her sister tells her repeatedly not to blow in to it.

Afterwards, amazed, she said: ‘I can’t believe this, what a day’, before asking the midwives to rate her performance.

She says: ‘Have we had fun guys? On a scale of one to ten, how much fun have we had?’.

At the end of the clip, Emma looks at the camera and mumbles: My poor baby’ before pausing and adding, ‘joking – my rich baby. Tell her I’m investing in stocks and shares for her. Vanguard S&P 500’.

And TikTok users ran to Emma’s comments to share their own hilarious experiences of gas and air, with some even confessing watching her video had made them want to have children themselves.

One person commented: ‘I was so licked off all the drugs and gas and air I was convinced I’d seen my midwife on Take Me Out and was like f**k Paddy Doherty (I know now his name is Paddy Mcguinness).

Another wrote: ‘This is the first thing I’ve seen that’s made me think, maybe I should have a kid’.

Another mother said: ‘I offered the gas and air to my partner & the midwives during labour and told them it was just like doing balloons, and repeatedly kept saying ‘honestly just try it, have some!’ I won’t tell anyone.’

One said: ‘Becky I love gas and air I kept asking my midwife when my Amazon parcel was coming, I hadn’t ordered anything. I was referring to my baby. My baby was an Amazon parcel’.

While a fellow mother commented: ”What a day’ absolutely sending me! I was practically chewing the gas and air when I was in labour. Congrats on your baby!’.

And Emma is not the only new mother who got a kick out of the anaesthesia while giving birth.

Lauren Hawking, from Plymouth, was filmed by her partner laughing her head off whilst pointing at her newborn – leaving viewers in hysterics.

The 27-year-old was on gas and air after giving birth to help ease the pain but was left high as a kite, making her giggle at her baby boy.

Lauren said: ‘My partner started filming as he thought it was funny. It just makes me laugh.

Just to clarify, I love my baby very much and it was filmed right after I had Rowan.’
