Beege wrote a great piece about the choice of David Hogg for Democratic Party Vice Chair the other day, and the hits keep on coming.
Hogg, the immensely annoying hero of the Democratic Left, isn’t on a mission to get Democrats elected; he is determined to move a party that is already far left of the country even more leftward, and that isn’t sitting well with a lot of Democrats determined to win.

Leaders We Deserve, a political group which Hogg co-founded in 2023, announced plans Tuesday to spend $20 million to assist in electing younger Democratic leaders, including primary challengers to incumbent House Democrats, The New York Times first reported. Carville, on his “Politics War Room” podcast, suggested Hogg should “resign” from his post at the DNC for targeting members of his own party.
“Wait a minute, let’s get this straight. He is the vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee and he is talking about raising $20 million to primary other Democrats,” Carville said. “Well, when I look at the DNC, ideally it should be an organization that’s trying to beat Republicans, not other Democrats … when you’re talking about using the power of the DNC, whatever power it has — it’s not very much — but you’re using that, and we’re paying — Democratic donors are paying — David Hogg’s salary. They’re paying David Hogg’s staff.”
“And he wants to run against other Democrats. Well, that’s America. Run against who the fuck you want to. But don’t — resign your position,” he continued. “Have guts, man. Have guts. Stand your ground. And I don’t think that’s part of the Democratic coalition. I don’t think they’re redeemable. I don’t think they want to be redeemed.”
Carville then repeated his Tuesday suggestion that far-left individuals should formally break away from the Democratic Party. He said Wednesday that perhaps Hogg is an example of someone who should leave the party.
The leftward lurch of the Democrats has a long history, and what is happening now is a recapitulation of what happened in the 1960s/70s–a move that put them in the political wilderness. It spawned the Democratic Leadership Council, which gave us Bill Clinton and a partial Democratic Party revival.
But such a revival will be much more difficult this time, given that the working-class base of the party has shifted rightward. The current base of the party really is far left, and David Hogg is sitting in his current perch of power because that is true. The DNC had to rig the nomination process to install Hillary Clinton, and did the same in 2020 to install Joe Biden, hoping he would be a moderate president.
He wasn’t. He (or his handlers, really), lurched far left on social and economic issues, and was only tempered by the greed and corruption of the Democrat oligarch class. Harris’ loss has crippled even that wing of the party, giving power to the AWFLs and the Democrat Brownshirts who embrace socialism, political violence, and who might find AOC a bit too moderate for their tastes.
Liberals are frothing in furious rage — and not only at Republicans. A record number have lost faith in the Democratic Party. Its favorability has never been this dismal. Liberals are begging — pleading — for new leaders and a new direction. Even in New York, 53% of Democrats want to fire the Democrats’ Senate leader… who is FROM New York. (Sorry, Chuck Schumer.) This isn’t normal behavior.
There’s never been a better time for an outsider to seize control.
Our first big story is the Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) whistlestop tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). (In honor of Bernie Sanders, I hereby dub it the B.S. tour.) Although they’ve been generating headlines for the size of their enormous crowds — even in ruby-red districts — that’s not the most meaningful part.
There’s a consensus forming amongst their supporters: They want to go to war.
Liberals are demanding to be represented by a fighter. Among Democratic voters, an overwhelming majority — 72% — want someone “more aggressive” to battle Trump. Less than a third (28%) sought a “moderate” approach.
The liberal base will choose the most aggressive, fiery liberal candidate. Moderates need not apply.
AOC’s electoral strength has reached the point where she could snuff out Sen. Schumer’s career if she wanted to. According to a recent poll, in a potential primary battle, she has a 19-point lead over the top Democrat in the state!
The Democrats have two donor classes to contend with: the financial wizards who just care about skimming 25% off the top into their pockets and using subsidies and regulations to fleece the American people, and the leftist billionaires who want to fundamentally remake America into Venezuela or Cuba. South Africa might be nice for them. Or Gaza.
Hogg is not the cause of this shift. Nor is Bernie Sanders. Barack Obama was the most effective of the bunch and furthered the cause, but he at least presented himself as a center-left, acceptable Democrat who incrementally pushed the Party leftward, not a revolutionary.
The consultant class and the oligarchs are panicking, seeing the face of the Party becoming the AOCs instead of the leftist but boring Buttigiegs. Pete Buttigieg may be in the lead right now for the nomination, but only because the leftists are split. He sits at 17% support, not far ahead of AOC.

All the energy is on the side of the leftists who think political assassinations of Trump or Musk would be justified–55% of liberals told Rutgers University that this would be fine with them–and who applaud riots, Luigi Mangione, and Karmelo Anthony. Every major Democrat wants to halt the deportations of illegal immigrant gang members, rushes to defend a wife-beating MS 13 member, and when asked about attacking Tesla and Elon Musk, goes into dances about how bad Musk is, not how bad political violence is.
The consultant class is up in arms, worried about victories at the ballot box. The oligarchs are worried because their grift is getting destroyed, and Democrats are endangering their future grifts, and now the left is targeting Democrats who aren’t left enough. Democrats who want to win are desperate to move to the center, but the Democratic base wants the Hogg approach.

The Hogg faction don’t think safe Democrats are left enough.
Aren’t left enough? Anyone in a safe Blue seat is already a socialist. What do they want?
Decolonization. Open borders. “Criminal Justice Reform.” Men ogling women in spas and locker rooms.
How much further left can you go? Apparently, a lot. Enough to get the Vice Chair of the DNC to spend $20 million to kick them out of Congress.
I don’t know how long Trump’s popularity will remain relatively high. He is spending political capital with abandon–luckily–but the 2020s Democrats are the 1980s and 90s Labour Party. They are so far left that the Conservatives could spend political capital with abandon too.
Carville is a jerk and not exactly in touch with 2020s America, but he is right. The Democrats are imploding. And the civil war will rage on for quite a while.
Democrats need their Tony Blair.
