Anti-Trump, Inc. Misses the Point Entirely On Maryland's Ward Cleaver – HotAir

The anti-Trump establishment’s ability to move as a herd in search of a narrative that will stick to President Donald Trump and stop him in his tracks is truly remarkable to behold. 

When I use the term anti-Trump, Inc., I’m including Resistance Media, Never Trumpers, and elected Democrats. For the better part of three months of securing the border and deporting the millions of illegal aliens Joe Biden let into the country, they’ve been searching for the one case, the perfect example of a poor, innocent victim of these deportations that was sent away unjustly. Ideally, it would have been an actual U.S. citizen. Short of that, a father of a couple kids with no discernible criminal track record will suffice.  

Enter Kilmar Abrego Garcia…after he was exited in an ICE raid. After being picked up and promptly deported to his home country of El Salvador, the Trump-hating establishment began to create the narrative around this case in the way a storm forms in the Eastern Atlantic into a hurricane. 

‘No evidence,’ they claim. ‘He’s not a member of MS-13. The government has never proven that case.’ ‘He’s just a Maryland dad trying to eke out a living for his wife and kids.’ It’s nonsense.

On ABC News, Jay O’Brien argued openly about what were and were not facts with assistant secretary of public affairs for Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin. 





It’s a similar fight on similar grounds that took place on Monday on NewsNation between anchor Hena Doba and Special Assistant to the President, Harrison Fields. 

No evidence, huh? Actually, there is. 

In his 2019 immigration hearing, immigration judge David Jones agreed with the government’s claim that Abrego Garcia had gang affiliations with MS-13, was subject to deportation, and that his claim for asylum was denied. 

On appeal, the judge agreed with the lower court, citing in his response that it is clear Abrego Garcia was part of MS-13. That fact has never been in dispute in court. It’s only been in dispute to Resistance media, because if that becomes well-known, it ruins their narrative. 

The heating up of the campaign to make this narrative around Abrego Garcia stick has included using Abrego Garcia’s wife, Jennifer Vasquez, by ABC News and other left-leaning outlets, to play into the sympathy card. 





Do you think the vast research and reporting abilities of ABC News could do a little research on Ms. Vasquez to see if they were walking into a trap? Nah.

Not one, but several restraining orders were sought by Ms. Vasquez against her husband for physical violence and battery against her. That’s right, he’s a wife beater on top of everything else. 

And speaking of everything else, another tidbit about his arrest that never seems to make it into the narrative. 

How many fathers of the year do you know who walk around with their confirmed MS-13 pals while carrying drugs and wads of cash on them? I mean, I guess you have to be prepared for anything on the playground while pushing your kids on the swing, right? My dad is a pretty good dad. I love him to pieces. I don’t recall him ever walking around the house with members of Sinn Fein and loaded with cash and dope. But that just might be the Luddite in me talking. 

Despite all of this information being out there and available, the narrative, and the race to be the top grandstander in case the narrative sticks, elevated to the level of absurdity as Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen boarded an international flight to El Salvador to conduct his own one-man foreign policy mission, in order to facilitate the Supreme Court’s ‘writ of facilitation’. He made sure to take selfie videos at every stop on his journey to play up to the fever swamp. He out-Cory Booker’d Cory Booker. Booker, after kicking himself for missing the opportunity, announced he’s planning on a similar trip, environmental concerns from his carbon footprint increase be damned. 

In El Salvador, after failing in his purported mission of meeting personally with his ‘constituent’, Mr. Abrego Garcia, Van Hollen made these claims. 





His deportation had everything to do with him being part of MS-13, a designated terrorist group, and even more to do with the fact that he was here in the country illegally. He was found by two courts to be subject to deportation. He is inventing a cardboard cutout personality and background bio of Kilmar Abrego Garcia that simply does not exist. 

There is, however, a legal point on which the Trump administration is vulnerable here, and Trump opponents would be absolutely correct in challenging him on it. As part of his claim for asylum, Abrego Garcia’s claim was that if he were deported to his home country, El Salvador, he feared he would be killed by a rival gang. Now I’m no legal scholar, but that sure sounds to me like an admission against interest. You cannot make the case that there is no evidence he’s a member of MS-13 when his defense for staying in the country was an admission that he’s a member of a gang, and the bigger gang would kill him if he showed up again. 

But on appeal, even though he was found to be a gang member, denied asylum, and subject to deportation, because of that fear of the situation in El Salvador at the time of his hearing 7 years ago, we could not deport him back to El Salvador. Gitmo? Sure. Anywhere else? Absolutely. Just not El Salvador. That’s the court order that’s still in place. The Trump DOJ could easily have asked to reopen that case and re-rule now that El Salvadoran President Bukele has cleaned up a lot of the rampant crime and has a prison system that separates the gangs. Upon further review, it’s entirely probable the stay against deporting him to El Salvador could have been lifted and nothing more needed proven. 

Andrew C. McCarthy makes this case over at National Review, and it’s a compelling case. The Trump team screwed that up. But now that Abrego Garcia is sitting in an El Salvador prison as an El Salvadoran criminal, there’s simply no U.S. court jurisdiction available to force his return. It’s a moot point.

But that’s not the hill the Trump-haters are dying on. They’re waging this campaign as if Abrego Garcia is just an innocent bystander here, which he clearly is not. 

Back to Van Hollen, who was rejected by the vice-president of El Salvador in his demand to speak in-person with Abrego Garcia in the prison. Their response? Have your embassy call our embassy.





It was the perfect response by the Salvadorans, and especially delicious. On January 24th, 2023, the United States Senate was moving on non-controversial nominees for agencies and embassies. Among them was the Honorable William H. Duncan to assume the embassy job in El Salvador. He was confirmed by voice vote, and among them, Chris Van Hollen. Duncan is still in that role today, although he now answers to Marco Rubio at State and Donald Trump. If Hollen believes that Duncan is going to subvert the White House and facilitate that request all on his own, ending his ambassadorship a second later, well, he’s mistaken. That’s not going to happen. Van Hollen is now in the position of having to attack an ambassador he voted to confirm for not joining his Quixotic mission. 

Meanwhile, while Van Hollen was photo-journaling a tailor-made case of Logan Act violations, the White House closed the trap once Van Hollen had taken the bait. 

After teasing for a couple of hours that the White House press briefing would have a special guest, out came Karoline Leavitt. 

First, the facts. 

Next, hammering Chris Van Hollen and the Democrats for going thousands of miles out of their way in order to try to illegally bring back an illegal alien who has terrorist gang ties, money laundering, drugs, and is a wife beater, because, priorities. 





Then, with the chef’s kiss, Leavitt turned the podium over to another of Van Hollen’s constituents, Patty Morin, who lost her daughter, Rachel, at the hands of another illegal alien Joe Biden and Chris Van Hollen facilitated into the Free State, who then lowered the boom. 

Chris Van Hollen has millions of pounds of CO2 put into the atmosphere to show for his antics, with nothing to show other than theater. It’s no different than the 25-hour filibuster a couple weeks ago by Cory Booker. It was faux activism with absolutely no substance in order to fool their base that there really are fighters in the Democratic Party.  

The White House just dared the Resistance media to tell a grieving mother her story isn’t relevant, doesn’t matter, and we want Barabbas returned. On Holy Week. So what did MSNBC and CNN do? Run away and ignore it entirely. 





You’d think the they’d learn, but this doesn’t appear to be the case this week.
