Kate Cassidy has revealed the chilling final words Liam Payne said to her during their last goodbye in Argentina just days before he died.
The influencer, 26, has been sharing her grief journey with fans since the singer’s death last October, and in a new interview she candidly detailed the true extent of his mental health and addiction struggles.
Speaking to Jay Shetty in the latest episode of his podcast On Purpose she confessed the One Direction star’s final words to her bring her both ‘pain and peace’.
Explaining that the couple would always engage in long goodbyes even if they were just leaving each other for one night she reflected on their final parting when she left Argentina to fly back to Florida.
She explained: ‘I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on and on about how much I love him and he laughed and interrupted me was like: “Kate you’re gonna miss your flight your car is in the driveway.’
He then added: ‘You’re acting like this is the last time you are ever gone see me again.’

During their last goodbye the singer said to her: ‘Kate you’re gonna miss your flight your car is in the driveway. You’re acting like this is the last time you are ever gone see me again’
Unaware of the events that were to follow, Kate said: ‘I just laughed back. But to look back in time and know that that was the last time I was ever going see him again is just so chilling.
She added: ‘I am so blessed that it was that heartfelt goodbye. Our last goodbye I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any differently. I am so glad we had that beautiful time together and I wouldn’t change that.’
Elsewhere in the interview Kate admitted to the true extent of the star’s mental health and addiction struggles as she explained: ‘He would take five steps forward then three steps backwards.
‘He could better himself but then that switch would just flip where he would wake up in the morning and he felt a certain type of way.’
Explaining how Liam was a homebody and she was the opposite, Kate said she would often have to persuade him to leave the house and not stay in bed at home or in a hotel room.
Speaking candidly she added: ‘It was at times a lot for me and I am not a professional, I never was and I am so young and I really just tried to do everything that I could.
‘One thing people need to realise is that you cannot fix somebody and you cannot cure somebody they can only really do it themselves.
‘You can help and support them through the better and worst days but you can’t cure them in addiction and mental health.

‘In order to help and care for somebody else you have to remember to care for yourself and I think that’s something at times I was forgetting to do.’
Liam was staying at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires when he fell to his death after a drink-drug binge on October 16.
Discussing the disease of addiction, Kate said: ‘If he could have chosen to be sober for the rest of his life he would have been.’
‘I didn’t really understand it at first so I think at the beginning of the relationship I remember being like in my head “Oh can’t you just not do that?” but it’s not as easy as that.
‘I finally realised this was something he could not choose. We would have the best day and then something would happen later that night where something would tick in his brain and he wouldn’t be able to help himself.’
Giving examples Kate said the star used to order a coffee from Starbucks everyday and would refuse to leave the house with his girlfriend to go and get one instead, saying he would rather ‘stay in bed’.
She also recounted how on their last holiday to Greece she had to coax him out of the hotel room to take him to the beach after he insisted he would rather stay in the hotel room.
The new interview comes after some of Liam’s fans expressed their anger that she keeps referencing him so publicly while his parents grieve as they accused him of using him for ‘clout’.
Sharing their thoughts in the comments on one of her recent TikTok posts, they wrote: ‘You need to stop using Liam’s name for clout. You left him there. You’re so fake. There is a reason why his family wants nothing to do with you’;
‘Liam Liam Liam u need to get some content which u don’t revolve around Liam. You are using this to publicise yourself. Please for the love god stop’; ‘Are you still going on about Liam move on.’
Liam had spoken openly about his mental health struggles and past battles with addiction. He had tried both therapy and rehab.

Liam, who had been dating Kate, 26, for two years when he died in October, had been with her in Argentina until two days before he fell 45ft to his death from a hotel balcony at the age of 31
On the night of his death, his hotel room was littered with drug paraphernalia and an opened champagne bottle.
Kate previously said his relapse seemed to come ‘out of nowhere’, and she had never imagined he was in such a fragile state.
His medical cause of death has been confirmed to be ‘polytrauma’, a term which means a person has multiple traumatic injuries to their body.
Five people have been charged over the singer’s death in Argentina after he fell from a third-floor balcony of the hotel.
The hotel’s manager, a receptionist and a friend of Payne have been charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office previously said in a statement.
