Microsoft founder Bill Gates has never set foot on the multimillion-dollar green-powered superyacht built for him.
The billionaire tech mogul, 69, reportedly commissioned the world’s first hydrogen gas fuel-cell superyacht, built by Dutch shipbuilder Feaship, in 2021.
Referred to as Project 821, the 390-foot vessel was designed to run on ‘green’ hydrogen, which is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity.
It has two bedrooms, a gym, offices and numerous bathrooms for a home away from home feel – the makers designed it to mimic an upscale apartment.
Despite the glamorous and high-tech nature of this boat, Gates has never once enjoyed its amenities – or even gone onboard, Luxury Launches reported.
Although Gates never officially confirmed his connection to Project 821, known as the Breakthrough, it has been widely understood and reported on that he was behind the undertaking.
The boat has been up for sale, and a Canadian billionaire may soon be the new Breakthrough owner.
Patrick Dovigi, CEO of Green For Life Environmental, is allegedly set to buy the $645 million yacht, Luxury Launches reported.

Aside from his link to the revolutionary-boating project, Gates has also been known for his unflattering connections, such as his friendship with the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein.
In fact, Gates’ relationship with the notorious child sex offender was a factor in his ex-wife Melinda Gates’ decision to divorce him in May 2021.
‘I did not like that he had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein,’ she told CBS’ Gayle King.
‘I made that clear to him. I also met Jeffrey Epstein exactly one time. I wanted to see who this man was and I regretted it from the second I stepped in the door.
‘He was abhorrent, evil personified. I had nightmares about it afterwards. That’s why my heart breaks for these young women. That’s how I felt, and I am an older woman. He was awful.’
Gates and Epstein met ‘several times’ despite revelations about Epstein’s sex-trafficking of minors, from his first guilty plea in 2008.
These meeting started around 2011, The New York Times reported. At least three of them were held at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse.
Epstein was also invited to fundraising dinners that promoted the Gates Foundation.
After his first interaction with the pedophile financer, Gates allegedly emailed a colleague: ‘His lifestyle is very different and kind of intriguing although it would not work for me.’

People who worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also visited Epstein’s mansion on numerous occasions, according to The NY Times.
Gates has admitted he made ‘a huge mistake’ by attending fundraising meetings with the convicted predator.
‘At the time, I didn’t realize that by having those meetings it would be seen as giving him credibility,’ Gates told The Times in 2022.
‘You’re almost saying, ‘I forgive that type of behavior,’ or something. So clearly the way it’s seen, I made a huge mistake not understanding that.’
