How many different things have you tried to improve your brain function? From splurging £97 a month on supposed super-supplement AG1 or stocking up on ‘focus gummies’ from Holland & Barrett, many people spend a decent chunk of cash on products claiming to boost your cognitive function.
But when it comes to looking and feeling sharper, what you put on your plate (or in your glass) has more of an impact than people realise. That’s why registered nutritionist Clare Jennings has teamed up with Presscription, creators of brain-boosting cold-pressed juices, to spotlight three ingredients to support a sharper mind.
Broccoli

Broccoli is a ‘natural detoxifier’, Jennings says, ‘and one of the most powerful detox-supporting vegetables. It’s especially rich in sulforaphane, a compound that stimulates the liver’s natural cleansing enzymes and help the body flush out waste.’
From a brain standpoint, Jennings highlights broccoli is ‘packed with antioxidants that protect brain cells from free radical damage. Over time, consumption of these antioxidants can support clearer thinking, better focus, and a stronger memory.’
Blueberries

Blueberries are ‘loaded with flavonoids that support cellular repair’, Jennings says, ‘and help reduce the toxins that build-up because of diet, stress and environmental exposure.’
The small-but mighty fruit has been ‘linked to faster brain processing speeds and memory support’, Jennings points out. ‘They’re small, but they deliver big results for mental performance.’
Lemons

‘Lemons are a detox staple,’ Jennings explains, ‘forming the basis of many detox juices because of their natural cleansing and alkalising properties. High in vitamin C, lemons help support liver function and digestive efficiency, which are both essential for your body to clean itself.’
‘Hydration, which a lemon’s nutrients help to boost, also plays a huge role in mental clarity,’ Jennings adds. ‘Adding lemon water to your morning routine helps rehydrate your body and switch the brain on after its relaxed while you sleep.’
